Or rather, why isn't anyone on the show showing signs or talking about the mayan calendar for this year? I figured this would be one of the top of the list. I KNOW there are people out there worried about it. You think they would find someone to up their ratings with this.

Re: Why isn't Doomsday Preppers talking about Mayan Predicti

The thing most people fail to realize about the Mayan calendar is that it doesn't point to the distruction of man.

In my opinion it is a point of starting over. As with most predictions, they are very vauge. Some point towards true events but not the events themselvs.

I believe the calendar is starting over as we would start a new generation and the radicals have taken this very vauge stopping point and ran with it.

One thing to understand when learning the mayan calendar is that there are many differnt cycles. One of which is 52 years "short term" then a "long term"

to document 52,000 years. I am not going to attempt to understand the ssenquence but one thing that I can understand is that the calendar is itself a circle,

with no clear stoping point, at least to mankind.

How accurate is the conversion of the Mayan calendar? It is pretty common knowledge that the Mayan calendar is supposedly more accurate than our Gregorian calender. What I am wondering is how accurate is the translation or conversion of the calendar.

Ok, I didn't know that and has me wondering now. Welcome to the forum!

Just because their calender is more accurate, I don't see how they can predict the end of the world. I don't buy into the Mayan things, it might be the second coming of "their god" (aliens) which might have also been mistranslated to christianity as the second coming of christ, who knows really. Guess we will find out at the end of the year.

The Mayans used the the sky for their calendar. They used constellations to plant their crops when the rainy seasons were among them, etc. When this was off they believed the gods were mad at them. So they would make sacrifices. If we wasn't so polluted with light pollution we could see what they seen. From what I get from it is we are coming into another orbit of the galaxy that this earth has not seen in over 30000 years. If you pay attention we are finding a lot of galaxies we have never seen we are finding more planets. Its is because we are coming into another part of our travels through the galaxy. No one know what is around the next star pattern because no one has seen this part of space before. I hope we are around for another 30000 years.

I'm with little, if Nostradamus was any indicator there's all sorts of loonies who say they know the future but not even one who turned out to be right.

The Myan calendar did not include calculations for leap year. Since Ceasar started leap year, there have been 514 leap years, basically 514 extra days which would make today's date on the translated Mya calendar approximately 17 months ahead of what it is. According to the Myan calendar, civilization ended about 11 months ago. Unfortunately their calculations were wrong, because it in fact ended in 2008.......
