I use a big bullet to compensate for other things...OMG a .460 for shooting any north American game is so freeking overkill that it is laughably funny. Ok, I will give you the charging grizzly or brown bear argument but any other application is a meat bruising overkill on a epic scale.
Nothing in North America requires more than a .30 caliber, these black powder hippo guns should be cherished but shunned for modern day big game hunting.
I have taken more elk than most people have ever seen with a .270 Winchester, also a lot of them with a 300 wby magnum which also takes down moose like a hot knife through butter. I just don't see the point of shooting a 450 grain bullet at an animal you can easily harvest with a 130-180 grain bullet.
One of my top 5 favorite rounds! So small, so stinkin' fast.I loved my old Ruger #1 in 22-250....sweet rifle
I have never been a fan of the Thompson Center's price tag. The barrel for the 460 alone exceeds the cost of an H&R. Never been a big fan of their aesthetics either. And I like my guns like I like my women, they at least have to look good.Thompson Center offers a stainless 460 S&W for the Encore.
