Just got curious (awful habit of mine) as to why y'all are members of this site. Maybe this has been asked before and I just missed the thread. Inor told me about this site although I had been lurking here off and on. I have been to prepper sites that do not tolerate discussion of religion or tin-foil-hat theories (which I find entertaining) or cut off discussions that may be somewhat heated (not nasty or ill-mannered just difference of opinion).

This place feels welcoming. I have gotten a wealth of information (the gun talk is usually beyond me and anything with equations - forget it). The discussions can be heated but everyone seems to have manners and are articulate enough to get their ideas across. A lot of veterans or from military families which I like. Most everyone has a sense of humor - essential if ever the shtf.

So, as I said, I'm curious as to why you are here. Or maybe a better thing to ask - why do you think this site is exceptional?

Inquiring minds want to know - LOL.

I came to learn. I have been into being a prepper for many years and have made a lot of mistakes along the way. What I found was not only a place to learn but great people to interact with. Yes there have been trolls come and go but the majority are good people. The core people I have come to like and respect.

Ive been on a lot of prepper sites, some for nearly 10 years. This one stands out for a number of reasons.

1. Folks here can disagree without things getting too heated or out of control. Cant say that about most other sites.

2. The paid for by Liberal Organization, trolls apparently havent found this place yet. Perfect Union is a great example of how they can ruin a perfectly good site. Yeah there is always one idiot in every crowd but many seem to have more than their fair share. Its one thing to have a different view point and its a completely nother to come here for the sake of straight up instigating hate and discontent.

3. There's a lot of great folks here and great minds and great ideas. I like to hear them all! Some of those ideas might not work for me and some I straight up disagree with, some are so ingenius I cant believe I didnt think of them, but its great to hear them all!

I have taken in alot of information over the last year or so from this site. Not only from my southern neighbours in the USA, but all over the world. It provides a different insight into problems that we do not have here. A sense of humor is extremely important when prepping, cause some would consider us "off our nut" when they watch garbage television like Doomsday Preppers. I would like to say that most of us here are here to be prepared. Prepared for anything that can and may happen. Please use all the great resources here on this site as a tool to better educate yourself.

To learn, to contribute, to better survive. Besides, everything on the TV and radio is run by left-wing zealots. It's nice to read from people on this form who belive that the government is not the solution, but part of the problem.

Over the past 3-4 years I was able to, with my prepped brothers help, get well prepared. I have a self sustaining BOL, and nearly self sustaining city home, and believe strongly in trying to live off my land and assets. I like these sites to learn new ways. Solar is important to me and provides aloof my juice. I'm regular gun trader minus that "SHTF" collection as I like the idea of having a firearm for every perceived need. Most people on these forums see problems with our economy as I do, but outside of forums like this you might as well be a truther....no offense truthers I just don't believe as you do.

I wanted to see if any one out there felt insecure about the current governmental administration, to the extent that they were stock piling food ammunition, provisions, to sustain them selves after the collapse of the currency and failure of the government.

Nope, no one on here.

It's a nice forum filled with good people of like minds where I can discuss and learn on subjects that are important. I guess I could join a forum on how to make the best doilies and donuts, but it wouldn't be quite as useful and interesting.

Mmm, donuts. And I have hot coffee brewing....

I joined because I am genuinely concerned about the direction this Country is going from an economic, social, political, and foreign policy set of perspectives.

I see the gap between the income classes increasing,
my tax burden increasing,
social welfare programs ballooning,
government bureaucracies expanding,
socialism creeping into capitalism,
financial laws being repealed or rules deregulated allowing the wealth managers to gamble and speculate with money they take from working people,
record corporate profits while reducing employee headcount forcing the remaining employees to work harder and longer to make up the manpower that are now unemployed,
racial tensions escalating,
the upcoming generations being sold down the river to make interest payments to lenders to our governments that will be repaid in future tax increases,
our military being weakened by mediocre "good enough" equipment and spread too thin by policies that emerged in the 1900s,
our returning soldiers being abandoned by the very government they volunteered to serve,
predatory, sub-prime, and liars loans being made to people who could never qualify for a loan in the first place,
social welfare programs once designed to give people a helping hand to get going becoming hand out programs that just keep going,
Wall Street returning to the same practices that led to the last financial crisis trying to keep their party going,
America being hated by entire regions of the world joining up with our historical enemies,
a society too dependent on electricity, fossil fuels, and computers that are all subject to sudden interruptions in supply while demand soars,
people eating food provided on a "just in time" inventory basis that makes them vulnerable to supply line failures,
weather systems that are being impacted negatively by human activity,
pollution poisoning our air, water, land, subsurface, and drinking water supplies,
ever increasing populations straining a limited and reducing set of resources,
new viruses and bacteria and chemicals being created that have never been seen before,
emerging countries trying to build nuclear arsenals ruled by religious zealots or personality cultists,
and
I like to be prepared, I am a gear-head, I like guns and shooting, and being self-reliant, and being able to fend for myself.

Oh, and cooking fresh food over a campfire - did I mention that?

I had just recently starting prepping, and was looking for like minded folks to learn from, share with, and talk too. I had been flipping through different sites and this one seemed to be a good fit. I was a Facebook junkie and couldn't exactly share my prepping attitude with, nor did I really want to share it with them. (easier telling total strangers with the same interests what your up too, and not your friends..lol)

I also wanted to hear what everyone else thought about our current situation. I find many of my friends heads up their arse where our future is heading. So many live in the moment and don't even bother to plan a week ahead in advance that I figured they wouldn't understand why I felt the way I did.

I had looked at other sites. None were as welcoming as this site. This site also offers lots of different perspectives on prepping. Things I hadn't thought about, like a BOV, Grid Down, etc. I have gotten so much useful information here, it's unbeilevable. The people here are so nice, and even if you don't share their opinion, that's ok. People here are very good at explaining themselves, their opinions and methods. It's just a great learning tool, with the benefit of feeling as if I've got friends all over the country & outside the country (thanks Jim).
I was also hoping to find a group to join with, to feel more secure with, in SHTF scenario. When I started, I thought "Oh, my son and I will go "Up North" and live in a cabin in the woods" blah, blah, blah. Sure. Me and every other person within 300 miles. Now I've got better ideas and options, thanks to you guys.

Now, can we hold hands and sing Cumbaya?:D

I am a tribalist. I like to be with others who think like I do, who belong to the same tribe. I do not particularly care to interact with outsiders if not necessary.
My tribes are: veterans (VFW, VVA, etc); and online boards such as this. I do not do facebook ar anything like that however.
I belong to, and post on, 102 online boards - history, veteran, firearm, outdoors, farming, survival/prepping. But this is my favorite out of all of them.
Great bunch of people, and jerks don't last long (Thank you, Leon. You are Da Man!)
I am here every day, at work when I crank up the puter for the day I'm here even before opening my corporate e-mail. And this window stays open on my terminal all day (being a boss does have a few advantages).
I like it here, being among friends.

I havent been here long, but i really like the kind, like-minded people on here. The information on here is outstanding, and everyone seems to know a little about something. I have been a prepper for a few years now, but have always been looked down upon in my family.
