Our economy sucks and so does our present leadership.
Not sure if that would stop communication between you and your friend.
Might be something else going on with him/her personally?

The economy has indeed been rough the last 2 years following the world wide shut down. Some places are recovering better than others.
Inflation is still higher than average, energy and food prices too as a result.
I agree with OR. Your friend is likely just dealing with personal stuff and hasn't noticed your attempts to communicate.

With the web being more of a weapon, maybe he's scared. Depending on what your talking about. One wrong post and lookout, the gestapo knows it.

Does your friend have relatives/friends nearby? Maybe he's passed on, and folks don't know how to reach his contacts. I know if I died, my siblings would have no clue on how to let most of my distant friends know. Especially internet buddies.
