We just had a new pump house built and there's quite a bit of room for...something. But with the high humidity, I can't figure out what I should put in there! No canned food. 5-gal buckets have metal handles, although I could remove those in storage, but would the humidity bother anything in a sealed bucket? Then I was thinking maybe vacuum sealed spare clothes, but what a nightmare if the seal was faulty and the moisture got in. Any ideas?

Plants will LOVE IT! Legality would vary depending on your state, but put in some sky lights and grow some "bartering materials".

No use for it personally, but if SHTF you couldn't ask for a more "in demand" trade currency!

If Serbia is any indication everyone will be growing the magic herbs and it will have little trade value because it will be everywhere. Still it is one choice for a "recreational" distraction.
Poppies are illegal to grow but it is ok to have the seeds. Keep some seeds on hand and grow poppies for medicinal use. That is likely to have a lot of barter value for intense pain treatment.

Don't store anything that may seep into your well like fertilizer or pesticides. I second the opinion that it would make a good root cellar.

That's a good idea! I've been meaning to get a couple of big barrels to store up, but in the meantime I have a ton of vinegar bottles full.

Don't root cellars need to be fairly low humidity? If not, score! We've been trying to figure out about building a root cellar.
