Hello all,

I am 28 y/o in the Navy, I have been a "closet" prepper for some time now but with things going on in our country these days I have been growing quite weary. I have alot of training in the area in survival, with the Navy, I am trying to figure out ways to make it a game for my wife and 3 year old daughter. I am unable to get larger amounts of ammo and weapons. I have my bug out kit set up and am trying to get two larger bug out kits ready as well. I have many ideas and am able to make more out of little. I am going to try to try to stay west coast through out my career and am wondering where I can get books about, food gathering and the use of plants and trees for medicinal use. I am an open book when it comes to my ideas and ability to create things/ equipment.

Welcome to the forum. Former closet prepper here as well, graduated after I started watching how the economy went downhill, and watching shows like dual survivor, doomsday preppers, man/woman wild, anything les stous. Spending more time just walking around in the woods nowadays gives me a sense of releif of everyday stress. Used to scream like a little girl when I saw a snake, but now I chase them. Not afraid of nothing anymore except one thing (rather fall in a river of crocs against someone putting a praying mantis on my shoulder

Anyway, welcome to the forum, ask any question over and over, and please answer as much as you know on a particular topic. Very friendly prepper forum here.

Hello buckinbronco66 and thank you for your service. A game that I play with my family is that I go extremely slow and let them bring out the preparedness in themselves. We were born survivors at anything we do. I'll be watching a show and something like a natural disaster will come on, then I'll mumble that we need to check to see if the wife's family has extra food or water, or I'll say something along the lines of that we need to store a few bottles of water in case something happens to her family and they need to come here. At that point her ears perk up and prepping begins. I've been very successful doing this so far and the inventory and obsession (for myself) has increased where I can sleep better at night. For the kids, they just go alone with anything I say regardless. I'm sure if they were older then they would turn the other ear at me. Either how you do it, you know your doing something right for your family. You don't want to be the one on the street after a disaster while knowing it was something you could have done to prevent it and seeing others with food and water while your family has none.

Out of my moral upbringing, you are a very good person to go this direction, and I thank you for being a good person in this world. Welcome.

You are welcome (regards to military service) Every time we go to Costco I try to get a little more and canned goods.

My dad has always worked on 50's Willy's (pre jeeps) and I wanted to be like him but different. The bronco has simple electronics and the ones that are needed are readily available and alot eaiser to store (fariday cage). With its simplicity and 4x4 proven capabilities, I can go damn near anywhere. Only issue is its fuel consomption and storage; currently I just installed a 23 gal tank to replace the 14 stock one. If driven carefully I can get at most 14mpg (not to shabby) eventually I will be installing a cummings 4bt diesel so I can make my own fuel and have it set up for multi-fuel capable.

I am not sure where to post my ideas and or previous training that would/ could help others but I am more than willing. If you or anyone you know has questions please let me know. I am well versed in Survival training in multiple enviorments, tactical shooting, combat tactics, knowing and studying your enemy etc.

Post anywhere right now, after a few posts you'll start seeing the layout of the forum a little better. We are always working to make it easier for everyone. We can move threads, split threads, copy threads, merge etc. I know a lot of other forums yell and gripe if you don't put a certain thread where it is supposed to be. not this forum. Trying to make it as friendly as we can.

Usually General Prepper and survival talk is where you can post just about anything.

You have also gave me a great idea to start a category on Military, or Military talk/experience. Thanks!

Nice to meet you Buckinbronco66, and thank you for your service to this great Nation! I found your post, because it just happened to be the same name as my business. Prepping has been something that I have done naturally my whole life without knowing it had a term, until the past couple years. I enjoy learning survival techniques and ways to survive off the land that are self sufficient and healthy. I am sure that you bring a wealth of knowledge from your experience in the Navy, but if you need any help or direction when purchasing survival food and supplies, check out our website www.WestCoastPreppers.com. We would love to help you out, and we always give great deals. Did you ever find any survival books for plants and their medical uses?
