The Colony

I was just watching re-runs of "The Colony" last night. The show premiered about 3 years ago, right along with that Surviving Alaska show. Of all the shows on preparedness I have ever seen, I think that one really gave an in-depth, totally immersed view of what would happen, physically, psychologically and communally, in a complete collapse of our societal norms, especially in an urban environment.

I think it's a great, full circle model of the hardships we would face. What do you think?

Yeah I watched both seasons of it, but I would much rather do the Surviving Alaska type show, that one seemed to be the real challenge, the colony was very staged (at least season 2) but still great shows to catch if you have netflix, they are both on there!
theres a new season of it on another channel called green tv starting next saturday

I have to agree with you on season 2. However, it was to be expected as the new participants had a chance to see what they were in for, having seen the first season. Kind of like Survivor. First season was pretty cool. Fizzled for me after that.

The thing I liked about the first season was the shift in the participants perceived reality. This started off as a total immersion experiment. By the end of the first series, these people were actually believing they were survivors of an apocolyptic event. You had to really zone in on their conversations, actions and reactions to pick it up, but it was there. I mean my god, they were throwing Molotav Cocktails at people and genuinely perceived these "hired actors" as genuine threats. There was definately a fuzzy area between reality and fiction. I liked it. Season 2 was definately less genuine. And I hope they debriefed these folks and put them back in the population "gently".

My wife and I just started watching the first season, and so far we really like it.. I see what you mean about letting them back into the population "gently", the guys definitely don't seem to look at the marauders as actors!

Btw, what's up with the blonde chick.. For an emergency nurse she seems to spend a lot of time making pretty outfits and avoiding any work..
