No doubt a similar thread has been posted at some point, but humour a newbie. What kind of end of the world or SHTF scenarios are you preparing for? What are you most prepared for?

But most importantly to this thread, if the world has to abruptly end society and modern life, how would you prefer it to go, regardless of logic or reason? Let your imagination tell us all. As a dinosaur enthusiast and a sci-fi fan, my dream apocalypse would be to have the modern world and the era of the dinosaurs thrown together in a chaotic fight for dominance on the planet. Massive prehistoric creatures roam the streets and raptors create nests inside our safe havens, creating a mass panic, an unstoppable apocalypse of two times coming in contact with the other now creates another great extinction, but this time for humanity.

I want to fight an invading army of insane clowns. And I want to fight some flying monkeys...those things are just so bizarre. And some dang terrorists - we all hate terrorists, don't we?

I prep mostly for natural disasters because those have actually happened more than once in my life so far - earthquakes, severe storms, ice storms, blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. Most of these preps are emergency preparedness type efforts - food, water, batteries, backup power, home protection, etc. And I have a thing for beef jerky and Gatorade....

I also prep for a breakdown of social order - financial collapse, civil disturbances, riots, violent protests following assassinations of leaders, looters/gangs/thugs/bad guys after disasters strike. If there is a war inside the U.S. (not likely, but what the heck) - hey it could happen, if those insane clowns, flying monkeys and dang terrorists all join forces, and learn how to fight.

Whoa, insane clowns and flying monkeys? That really is letting your imagination do the talking. Sounds like the start of a series of successful for being bad B movies. Though your actual prepping reasons are very good, I commend you for your level headed reasons and bat shit insane end of days scenario.

It's the flying monkeys that keep me awake at night.

They steal your little dogs, too.

Dang flying monkeys. Freakin' terrorists. Insane clowns. The world is going to hell in a handbasket, I tell ya.

In an EOTWAWKI, I'd rather not let my imagination run wild, I fear it would happen. In my little fantasy world, the lights just go out and we all sit around a campfire roasting marshmallows and singing "Country boy (and girl) can survive"...patting each other on the back and telling stories about how it used to be. I don't have a "fight for your life" scenario, even though I know it can part of it.

So with that said, I'm trying to prepare for an economic downfall which is headed like a frieght train in our direction.

I've also got plenty of marshmallows stored...LOL:mrgreen:

Yeah but we'd have to vote for it before we could find out what's in it.

President Pelosi sounds like the ultimate nightmare scenario to me...
Google the summer that never was 1816. Most don't even think about anything like this yet it's happened. The real scary part is when do they tell you oh sHTF this one ain't normal and the world has lost 1/3rd or 1/2 of its continual food supply for ah, year.

Prepared for an economic collapse but if I could choose, all politicians would be abducted by aliens from another planet. The entire country would be in total chaos until the party was over and life returned to normal.

My primary immediate concern are natural disasters, but I also see the slow moving train of social change and econimic decay we are under going. I don't really see an overnight/overt social collapse or governemnt intervention so much as a socialist shift which will be unsutainable. Such a shift would make us more vulnerable to external threats as well.

As for my imaginary apocolypse I guess the Zombie scenario is about as good as any. They move kind of slow if you rule out the Resident Evil version, and I'm not as agile as I once was, escape and evade with the arcade shooting game seems doable.

Either way, I just need 5 more years to escape the rat race and simplify life a bit more. Well, 5 more years if the yahoo's in Washington don't run us into the ground and off the tracks. Nuthin' more ugly than a freight train stuck on a muddy dirt road.

I am preparing for Economic disaster. And the normal disruptions that could be caused by weather.
But I pray everyday I never need is likely coming.

I'd be happy to spend the rest of my life living without a SHTF event. That being said we live in hurricane central (Florida). I am also a realist and truly believe that we will see an economic failure which will bring civil disturbances with.

I just hope for a level playing field where I have a leg up. ;-)
