Well, slap me with a ratchet!

That is one of the oldest gags in the Junior Magician Handbook. I think I had one when I was 11.

It's the old Appearing Wand--only larger.

The original Appearing Wand was shorter, skinnier, shiny black, and fitted with white plastic tips.

It's just what every pre-pubescent Magician needed to turn fake water into fake wine.

Needless to say it was utterly flimsy.

As a staff, slapping a helium balloon would probably bend it double. And not pop the balloon.

It's perfect for posers, but a plastic Jedi light saber would be much more dangerous on the street--if its batteries were charged.

It just kills me to think that some Chinese dude probably bought four Lamborghinis on the profits from this pieces of puke.

Pretty cool, I'd say. BOB friendly. Do you think they're as good as they look? US$ 23.59

I am in love with this concept, yet I really worry about the durability. I would trust a single piece, cut to length galvanized steel conduit pipe with something wrapped around to help absorb the impact, over that jack in the box.

Wow. Reality check here.

A bo is a weapon. It's fundamental purpose is to kill human beings.

A bo should be sufficiently strong and rigid to smash a person's skull like an eggshell when wielded with lethal intent.

Likewise a bo is a mass weapon. It relies on momentum for its lethal effect. That requires mass--or weight, if you prefer. Speed is always good, of course, because it increases momentum.

If the bo cannot transmit the momentum enhanced by speed it is useless. If it is too light to have any significant momentum it is also useless.

It doesn't matter how hard or fast you strike someone with a silk hanky, no damage will be done because of the utter lack of momentum possessed by the almost massless hanky.

A bo should also be strong because you will nor survive in extended combat if it breaks the first time you hit someone. Your enemies will often bring their friends along to help them kill you. Think of it as a team sport.

A bo should be so strong and rigid that you can jam it into a person's belly and have it come out the their back. (Professional note: Aim to either side of the spine.)

It should be so strong and rigid that if you ram it into a brick wall with full power it will neither bend nor break.

Any weapon is useless if you are not able to use it. Develop the ability to hold the bo even when you strike something with full power. Develop the ability to strike hard and fast.

The very idea of needing padding on your weapon is ludicrous.

Don't spend your time learning how to twirl your bo. Spend your time learning how to beat the stuffing out of a heavy bag while making it sound like King Kong is clapping in happy approval.

Dismiss all fantasies about lightweight bos. Ditto for concealable bos. You should cherish weight and reach.

A bo is a fighting stick. It differs from a spear only in the nice sharp blade that was added to facilitate slicing strikes and body skewering.

Even so, plain bladeless sticks have killed more people in human history that all the guns and bullets ever made.

I have no knowledge of bo staffs, but what you say makes sense to me. I want something heavy if I am hitting someone.
