I am looking at a Grundig shortwave radio (German I think). I have no experience what so ever with shortwave radios. I was thinking on just getting one of those eton hand crank radios, but I think a shortwave radio would be better to listen to stuff around the world though. I'm confused on which to get as a newbie!

I know zilch about radios except they'll be essential in a Doomsday scenario when TV stations probably get closed down, and will be our only way of knowing what's going on out there.
I got this one because of its light weight for hiking, it can pick up Shortwave, AM and FM-

And I also got this one as a backup, but it only gets AM and FM (not shortwave), but shortwave is not absolutely necessary anyway is it?
