Your name sounds Polish mate, good for you, the Polish Kosciuszko squadron (below) shot down 126 jerry planes in the Battle of Britain..:)-

Squadron 303 - amazing bunch of dedicated pilots.... Sadly the Brits have hung out all the Polish troops out to dry after the fact..... This continued for ages as even now there is little said about their accomplishments. Did you know that Ultra (aka Enigma) was handed to the Brits on a silver platter along with the mathematicians that broke it and kept the program going at the start of the war and they were pretty much all Polish? But I digress ;)

Yeah, the brits were just grateful about their contribution to the war,

sent the pilots behind the iron curtain that was forming by uncle Joe at wars end.

The pols gave the brits at least the three rotor assembly from the Enigma,

was stolen out of the Lorenz factory in pieces so it would not be missed after assembly.

The factory made Teletype machines under license from TT corp. the encoder was based on the mechanics of the Model 15, I think.

As to the air battles, it was said that while the Brits just wanted to shoot down airplanes,

the Pols wanted to kill all of the aircrew in retaliation for the butchering the Germans did to Polish civilians.

They actually gave them fully functioning Enigma machines as they were able to reverse engineer the military ones based of spy supplies info and the business ess models out there.

There's more to the way they came up with the code cracking machine for the ciphers used in the enigma but my thumbs can only hit the little keyboard for so long ;)

I'm English so what the hell do I know about firearms, I don't own any guns but out of curiosity what if the bad guys come at you guys at night; are there night scopes available for your rifles?
I know hand-held NV scopes are on sale to the public for watching animals and stuff, I bought myself this Hawke model for £200 (269 US dollars) a few years ago-

Thread on this sight will give you some insight as to how much trouble anyone thinking dark will protect them is in.

You can go with a weapon mounted NV scope or go the route of a PVS14/17 or other NVD and weapon mounted IR laser and illuminator. Personally I went the route of PVS14, laser and illuminator as I find it so much more versatile and useful to me.

A friend just got a 1943 Underwood M1 Carbine, so I couldn't help myself and got out my 1943 Inland to admire.

I have a number of magazines loaded with Winchester 110 grain JSP, I would feel very comfortable using that for home/self defense.

If we had to jump and run to the yard or run far away I'd be carrying the AR-15 I built to be lightweight and super reliable. At 1.8 moa (10 shot group) it's not the most accurate rifle in town but it's reliable., never failed to go bang.
My wife would be carrying a CMR30 in 22 MAG which after some breaking in and mods is also reliable but requires cleaning every 350 rnds because it's a semi-auto rimfire loading from a stacked mag.. It's a lot of fun to shoot. Best to keep her on a rifle she can shoot fast and accurately (3.5 moa), With a loaded 30 rnd mag with a good Holosun reddot sight and backup flip-up sights the CMR30 weighs 4.7 lbs so a lot of firepower for the weight. We are focusing on reliable lightweight defensive rifles that can take dinner with lightweight compact ammo. We're not looking to make the 600 yd shot.

Lightweight means more ammo. Shot placement counts. That's what we focus on.

This thread went round and round and well... Round

I do have at the moment a decently setup AR and a bolt action 308 and some other stuff.... And while I like the fact how light my AR is I'm starting to get an itch to trade that and my 308 for an m1a .....

The upside I see is that it's one rifle, if I go with an 18" barrel I get best of both worlds.... Just heavier then one rifle but lighter then two ...

.btw... Anyone has $2K they wanna donate to me? Wish I bought an m1a 15 years ago..
