Yeah, and Terry Pratchett has a life membership with the sci-fi club I ran in college. So? Stuff like this, you give people memberships, it's publicity, it's a conversation point, it means little or nothing. You get to send out in your newsletter, "Look who visited us!" And as Pratchett said when we told him we were putting him down for a lifetime membership - "You realize I'm never coming back here, right?" Of course we do. It's meaningless.
I don't give a crap, anyway, even if he was a radical lefty (and seriously, if you think he is, you should spend some time over here in the UK) he'd still be better than the alternatives.
Well if you really think that my friend, you need to go back to school and learn about history. We in the US see him as an insult to the world. Maybe you imperialists are cool with having no freedoms but here in the US we value our freedom higher than any other thing. There's WORLDS of proof Obama means to further the cause of the elites, not anyone else. How could you be so blind and uninformed and be here on prepper forums?
Dude, I'm American. Grew up in NYC. Moved to Scotland during the last few years of Dubya's reign, because, well, I valued my freedom, I saw the way the wind was blowing, and I had a chance to get out. I'll move back someday, I miss America so much. Loyalty to the country always, loyalty to the government when it deserves it. I'll go to the Pacific Northwest, I think.
Who exactly do you mean by "the elites", anyway?
I cast my absentee ballot for him, in the first election. I haven't been very impressed with his first term, gotta say. But what I know is, the alternative is a party that's trying to make it harder to vote and throwing out the results of those votes, that's attacking the rights of women at every turn, that's attacking the unions of policemen and firefighters, that's making it possible for corporations to spend unlimited money supporting candidates. Talk about advancing the elites - the boards of corporations can buy elections now. They can buy laws. It's just that simple.
I wish there were other legit alternatives. From what I'm seeing and hearing, things are splitting enough that I bet there will be other real, electable parties soon. That'll make me happy. If Ron Paul weren't so isolationist and inconsistent, I could almost get behind him - a real libertarian party would be good for the States, I think.
Anyway, I'm not blind and uninformed. I just take my news from different sources than you do. We disagree, that doesn't mean either of us is ignorant.
Yes actually it means you are ignorant. This is not my opinion it's a verifiable fact. Whatever "news sources" you get your news from are flawed. That is painfully obvious. And if you cast your ballot for a born-in socialist and member of Bilderberg group you are terribly uninformed. I personally do not see why you are on this forum. Thinking like that is opposite of anything we believe in. Look up "NWO" and get yourself educated.
ZGF – I have to agree with Leon’s sentiments on this. You’re regurgitating biased media smokescreen and not reality. If you have any desire to get a grasp of true US and global political/economic realities, you need to drop the hand-puppet party clichés and do your homework. At the moment you’re talking like the quintessential ‘just got off the bus’, ‘drank the Kool-Aid’ poster child. Please, for your own good, go stick your fingers down your throat and puke that stuff up. Read, research and find out the truth. It may not taste as sweet, but it might just keep you alive.
This is a preparedness forum and you're in the right place, but it's a political thread we're posting on and part of preparedness is having a firm grasp of reality. We have your best interests at heart... seriously.
The ironic thing is, if any of you went on to a liberal forum, they'd be all over you saying exactly the same thing you're saying to me. I'm not even that liberal; I'm an independent.
But still, I know I'm biased. I also know you're biased. We happen to be biased in different directions. As I said, that doesn't make any of us ignorant. It just means we all have to take everything with a grain of salt and use our own judgement. I'm sure you realize that you can't really trust the veracity of any big media source. I read both The New York Times and the Atlantic, I watch both NBC and Fox, and the BBC World News for a supposedly objective outside view. I don't completely believe any of them, but I get a decent general picture. All you can do is read and watch a variety, and use your own judgement.
Frankly, none of us is going to convince the others on political views. I'm fine with that. I didn't think that was the point of this forum. I was pretty sure I'd just find people here who were used to using their own judgement. Ah well.
Seems like if you're into prepping and survivalism you can either hang out with the conservative tin foil hat fundies, or the liberal head in the clouds commune hippies. No happy medium? I'm disappointed.
Edited to add: Anvillron, thank you for at least saying I'm in the right place, and not straight up calling me ignorant. I appreciate that.
I feel that I have a decent grasp on reality. If I didn't, I figure, I wouldn't be doing as well as I am in this world. But thank you for your concern.
Likewise. I don't see why you're interested in preparedness if that's what you really think. Sounds to me like you have 0 reason to be prepping or concerned about anything you can find here. TBH this is just a news thread. This was never meant as a discussion.
I'm sure that if I had 0 reason to be prepping, you would also have 0 reason to be prepping. These things affect all of us - although granted, I'm not as likely to be hit by a hurricane or earthquake as some people in other places.
In the future, I'll keep in mind that the news threads on this forum aren't meant as topics of discussion.
Well, according to your sentiments there is nothing wrong with Obama and the US- it doesn't matter who is a socialist right? You couldn't be in the right place, this is a place for people not sheeple. If you're interested in preparedness and survival I would say start by learning more about the world and get more of your facts straight. Maybe start giving a hell. But talking like that and thinking as you do, you have nothing to offer this community or its members. And frankly we got nothing to offer you.
