I'm not quite there yet, but my plan is to make my own biodiesel from used cooking oil you can find tons of for free behind fast food restaurants. I'm sure that if anything apocalyptic occurs, used cooking oil won't be the first to be napped up by people, so you should be able to go around and get yourself however much you need.
Of course, it would be best to understand the full process and have everything setup before the aliens invade (I think I have an unfair leg up here considering I thermo-fluid science and thermodynamics in school :vs_smirk:). And, of course, having already or having the ability and materials required to convert your diesel vehicle to run on biodiesel.

^^And THAT would be my bugout vehicle. My out preference would be a Wrangler, but since those are few and far between, any 4 wheel driving SUV or pickup would work.

But.. I'm nowhere near having all of that done ;)

This my BOV, it is 4wd. It has enough room to carry the family and some supplies. This a pic right before a camping trip at the river. It has a 28 gal tank and can get about 15 mpg at highway speeds. I have done enough off roading with it to know that it is a very capable truck.

I has seen many of your picture of truck, jeep, all other cool ideas... But what if road is blocked!? I think this will make great BOV. From I read at other website about this paramotor. It can carry up to 460 weight. So, 1 person. gas (5 gallon) and supplies. It flew over all road blocked. It flew over forest, building, whatever on ground. I has seen someone flew up to 15,000 ft high on YouTube. It could go up to 100 mile with 5 gallon fuel. So... It make 20 MPG... sound better than truck/jeep/car/van's MPG

Here is my plan. I plan on a remote island (Think Gilligan!). At least zombies can't swim..... or can they? lol.
Hate to tell you, Zombies don't need to swim. The simply walk along the bottom unless a shark decides to take a bite out of them... You really need to
do the research.

I was actually thinking that it'd be a good idea for us to have a motorcycle or two. Hubs used to have one before we were married. But my Dad told him to sell it if he wanted to marry his daughter. Pops hated motorcycles, but if he could see the way things are today--and I guess he can from beyond the veil--then I think he'd see they're a good investment in the event of a crisis. ETA: sure hope I've been worth it, hah! .....Maybe I should get hubs one for his birthday. But I don't know anything about bikes (obviously). I think he had an Indian? Something like that?

How about an ATV (4 wheeler) or an UTV (side by side)? With either one you can carry supplies a little more easier and have 4 wheel drive to navigate off road terrain. Some brands are Artic Cat, Polaris, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, and Can Am.

We picked this up ([email protected] 320s Outback by nuCamp) in late October to go with the Jeep, although it was a present for the wife on our 30th anniversary it does have some limited use in our prepping and bugging out plans if need be. It has the 150 watt solar flex panels on the roof, all LED lighting inside and out for low electrical consumption, 3 way fridge, 11 gallon fresh water and both grey and black water storage, Storage for extra water/Fuel on the tongue. For heating it has the Alde system and not a furnace and takes very little to heat the inside with less mechanical parts.

The Camper is small (16 ft total length from tail to tongue) so that we can get into tight places here in the Rocky Mountains if need be. Total dry weight is 1700 lbs and fully packed the Jeep has no problem pulling it. The thing is light and I can move it around by myself on flat ground. It does have a inside shower and toilet and also a outside shower, mini fridge and 2 burner stove, sink. The clearance underneath with the high back end and bowed axle is perfect for dirt roads although this is not a rock climber camper.

Pack it up and out of here. Only joking aint going no where. But good fuel mileage quiet and fun to bug out on mow and then. More I play with it the more I like it better than the old setup.

Nice rig @Smitty901

Does it handle better with or without the passenger?
Not a lot of difference . With a Hack some add weight to sidecar when no one is in it about 25-40 pounds. After awhile you get use to it . Sidecar is a learning curve. As you can see I do take them off the road a bit.

I've had my 2015 Silverado Z71 since mid-June. I am flushing out my mileage and storage options. A small lift and all-terrain tires are coming soon. I am also looking at communication options and will most likely add a cap with a roof rack. It's my daily driver as well as my get out town vehicle.
