An alternative sweetener to keep in mind before you run out of that last bag of sugar is persimmons!

Cut the fruit, dry. Cut it in half and dry more, and so on until the pieces are small, dried and good for grinding.
Grind it up into a powder, and there you go!
OK, so it isn't snow white. Big deal! :grin:

Persimmons grow down here in the South, dunno where else.

I hate bringing up an old thread, but I have been looking for a suger substitute for a while. I have been looking for a stevia plant locally, but no nurserys have them.

My friend who owns a nursery has persimmon trees for sale though. These are the hard skinned ones. I was told there were 2 types of persimmons(?) soft and hard. Does this method work for both types of persimmon?

Hopefully this thread isn't too old, so someone can chime in. Thanks :)

Sugar beets also . At one time a major source of sugar in the US. Plus food value and animal feed
