(As this is my first thread I invite mods to move it if they feel it necessary)

Also I'm not Suggesting anyone use this information to commit fraud, hide from our wonderful government or ever put any of it to use. These are just thoughts that I will never admit to actually ever doing (cough) and is strictly for information and academic study only. (cough) don't laugh - they can hear you.

After reading a thread by (PrepperMama) about "Purchases Tracking" I thought having a OPSEC thread of ways to protect ourselves would be beneficial.

Also whether you plan on ever leaving the country or not I would highly recommend that everyone obtain a passport (before it's to late) as it counts as a form of I.D. that doesn't have your SSI#... Also very easy to get forget to update your address on it say if you turn the power on at an abandoned property your fixing up (cough)...

Read this:
http://papersplease.org/wp/2012/09/24/

My fictional character is named (cough) I'm not admitting to anything.

Purchasing:
Cash is great. But what about Sam's Club, Costco, etc where you must use a membership card to purchase?
Yes, they track you, but for instance Sam's Club will make you a business account if you have a "Business Card + Credit/Debit Card"

So (Cough) went to their bank and got a Pre-Paid debit (gift card) in a fake I mean "Pen or Professional Name" matching the business cards anyone with $10 can get from www.VistaPrint.com if you have to show I.D. Use your passport and explain you don't have a drivers license or whatever. Pay with the prepaid (gift card) ones at Wally-world are great, but lack a name - not your real name.

You get where this is going.

Volunteer & make (small-ish) donations to food banks, soup kitchens etc. If anyone comes knocking refer them to the location/s where you donate your time (and purchased supplies) to the community once a month. The smaller places like churches and Alcohol Anonymous places remember you but also respect your privacy if you refuse to give a name sense "you don't want recognition, just to help out" that line has kept (cough) off the books for years.

Don't just do it for cover because some people can tell if your reasoning if fake.

Oh, Pen Names are great for staying at Hotel/Motels anonymously as well.

Let's say you have multiple BOL's and want your mail but don't want it at home or going to an address that might not even exist. There are several mail forwarding companies, however because of "The Patriot Act" all mail forwarding businesses now have to put FPO or an equivalent to cut down on mail and other types of fraud. If I put the answers here they will fix them. A little exploring on how truckers can have their mail waiting for them at set points (truck stops) you'll be there and gone.

Guess I'll stop here for now.

P.S.
I'm not very directional in my writing so if you have questions ask away, I'll do my best to answer what I can and look forward to reading others ideas as well.

All good points. I guess part of the reasons we go to so much trouble now is my gf has a stalker, and we've had a break-in...

I'm a great shot, and "may" one day have to go down that road. How many people show up at my door just the "Entitled/Gimme" people. Then you have thief who aren't going to knock. I don't want either kind but especially not the later of the two.

Let's say you purchase NBC gear and reloading supplies during the same month on the same card, with an additional 2,000 plus rounds to shoot and reload later. It isn't paranoia if they really are watching you. They don't know your just prepping. Well I'd rather go thru more trouble now than worry about whether I have enough bullets or is my masks are rated for teargas (which they are) lol.

Love that secret bunker road-sign, but keeping your mouth shut just searches the surface. I've had the power turned off before because the electrical people didn't know where to send the bill.

Sense there is little interest, I will let this thread die. Thank you all for your honesty, it's better than the paranoia jokes other sites have generated.

If anyone should ever stumble upon this post and need/want information on hiding their stuff or people.....

It's not paranoid to want to protect yourself as it's bred into all normal people's DNA from our caveman days, the last thing they did before turning in for the night was to pile brushwood and thorn bushes up at the cave entrance to stop anything nasty getting in..:)
True paranoia is when worrying too much sends people bananas, I was briefly in a survival site early this year where most members were cuckoo so I soon left because they jumped on practically every innocent post I made, screaming "You can't say that! This site is probably being monitored by the powers that be and we don't want to get in trouble!"
The whole place was in the grip of paranoia and irrational fear that they were being watched, it was more like a nuthouse than a forum..:)

WIKI- "Paranoid personality disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis characterized by paranoia characterized by a pervasive and long-standing suspiciousness and generalized mistrust of others"

IMO there's today and then there's after SHTF or TEOTWAWTI. Alot of things that are important today just wont matter after either of these events.

As for what the government does between now and then and how you deal with it to each there own. Just know your not alone and any ideas are good ideas. Everyones opsec should vary as that what keeps "them" off there toes. If we ever cookie cutter an approach to prepping then that will be the beginning of the end for some.

Lucky Jim: I never answer my door or phone to anybody anyway.. When you don't answer your phone or door you should remember to have your scatter gun close at hand. Thieves are prone to "knock first" and have a phony reason if the door is answered. If no answer, the door comes off the hinges or a side window is breached. Don't be in the position of having invited them in by not answering or else be prepared. Just saying.

At this point I don't care who knows we are ready. They never know all the details . When the time comes to lock down we will avoid all contract with others if possible . We will manage any contact case by case with one rule in place we defend what is others to defend
