Obama orders US to draw up overseas target list for cyber-attacks

According to this article, the US and China might already be launching cyber-attacks against each other. If true, i don't like the sound of this, and really don't like where it could lead.

Of course we should have a list of potential targets, and of course we should have the means to attack such targets; that's just common sense planning. Actually carrying out such attacks is another matter, and one which scares me a little. (IF this report is factual)

What troubles me is that this is being put out there. I like the idea that any attack we perform should come as a surprise. From what I've read China is already doing this and we do not need to give them a heads up.

retired guard, I agree. They need to nail down these leaks.

And yeah, I've read China is doing it too.

But what really bothers me is that, if we are already engaged in a covert cyber war, where might it lead? I mean, it can't make anyone feel better to hear that the world's 2 remaining superpowers are actively attacking each other's computer systems or networks.

I would love to know what systems (if any) are being attacked. I don't have a problem with China blocking porn sites or internet gambling or whatever, but would have a big problem if it was our financial nets or military databases.
