How do we now communicate with others with a like point of view without being monitored by big brother? Probably no answer to this. They don't want us to be organized. Short wave is the way to go, with a generator. Your thoughts?

Word of mouth. But honestly not sure what there is. I don't worry yet cause well honestly they got other people more important than little ole little me to worry about.

The question is a valid one . What effect will this have of the free exchange of ideas(WOW I sound like a liberal) Knowing that they are not only monitoring calls and internet use but keeping records of it.
You know we are not on Obama and Holder like list. There are those like me that just don't care if I piss Obama off but I can see where many would back off and hide.
I guess that pesky Constitution was only meant to protect socialist, liberals and not the rest of us .

This is not to say that I am happy about the NSA monitoring us, but there is another way to look at it...

For over 30 years we have been bitching that our politicians "are not listening to us". Well, they are listening now. What do you want to say? :-D

My problem isn't that they monitor it's that I can't trust those wo do. It's clear leftist in the employ of our govt don't mind breaking the rules for their gain.
Sorry, my poorly made point is that right now might be the only time we can speak truth to power without fear of retaliation. Even the American sheeple are getting really wary of this government with the recent scandalpalooza. For a short window of time, we can speak freely and make our brutally honest points (short of making ridiculous comments about assassinations or overthrowing the government).

This is really the first time in my lifetime that the government has laid their cards on the table and dared me to speak against them (with the threat of an IRS audit or exposing some embarrassing indiscretion).

Obama is not a crook. He is not smart enough to be a crook. He is a sock puppet. His puppet masters are certainly crooks and by the time this is all over we may well know all of their names. This may be the only time these bastards offer us a straight up fight. As far as I am concerned, bring it on boys!

Sir that is the point. We have now had what many of us have been say was going on proven.
The IRS,EPA,BATF even State DNR have been doing Obama's dirty work. There can be no doubt now that with undocumented citizens voting, Organized efforts to have many vote several times. and Government agency attacking Conservative groups. Is what allow Obama to be reelected. Our government is out of control. What we warned other about has been proven.

Bush hasn't been involved in nearly 5 years. The blame bush crowd are just apologist for the loser in charge.

I appreciated the Wisconsin Congressman on TV the day after this came out; the man who wrote in large part
this element of the Patriot Act. He clearly stated "this is not what its for" and he hopes to replace it quickly.
I hope the outrage continues and its replaced. I don't hear the beloved left wing (non Bush) democrats
calling for it to be replaced?

Most of this was started under Bush. Blame both parties.

Both of the top parties have participated in the reduction of our rights and the dismissal of the constitution. They have been doing it since Lincoln was president - complete disregard for the constitution ans the rights of the people and the states.

It is just that people are finally waking up from their dreams and seeing the destruction. We have to stop blaming "the other party" and vote libertarian. At least they follow the constitution.

Just speak in code. It will drive them crazy.

The elephant is green and has a red eyepatch.

The chair is no longer against the wall, and John shaved his mustache.

The otter swims on his back while eating abalone but sleeps by the boat.

The man is at the window, the man is at the window.

The man in the coonskin hat wants eleven dollar bills, and you only got ten.

The pump don't work 'cause the vandals took the handle.

Some of you may have a deeper understanding of these messages than others....

::redsnipe::I got my aluminum foil lined Coors light box firmly in place! They may monitor my email but they will never control my brain!

I think the best defense with any of these programs is to overwhelm the system. Keep putting as much stuff out there as you can.

Like I said before, if they are monitoring me, they will die from boredom.

I don't communicate with terrorists, so I am not worried.

I'm not saying I support the practice in any way. Personally I do not see what was wrong with going before a judge for a wiretap.

The relevant laws supposedly protect Americans inside America. I do not trust that this will be strictly observed, and this metadata mining goes against that constitutional right (is it a reasonable search to take all the information?) - mission creep is almost inevitable....

Y'all want to learn an unbreakable code using stuff that most folks have at hand? In the miltary we used one time pads, a pad contain randomly generated letters of the alphabet in five character groups. This code is unbreakable as long as the pads are secured. In the real world one time pads are scarce but you can use something that is handy that is almost as secure. Any printed material for which you have two identical copies will do such as identical copies of a Bible or book.

We could all communicate using PGP software. (pretty good protection)
It encripts with a personal and public password. All you have to do is download the software and then make up a key. You use the public password when privacy is not important and for those times when you want privacy you use your personal key (that is only shared with those you want to communicate with.
PGP is available world wide and is open source software - you could even use the source code to generate a tighter encryption.

There have been very few defeats for technology and communication since the advent of the computer and the Internet. Napster is probably the most famous in crossing the line and being shut down and I gather there are "napster" clones out there today I just don't care to look for them or use them. I bring that up because I firmly believe our technology industry is capable of winning a battle against the government. Here is an example and you just have my word on it - because it otherwise does not exist.

In 1995 I worked in Silicon Valley for a dot com. They had a terrific sales program and agreed to teach me sales and I learned how to sell from them. I was very political then and recall Al Gore coming to town. There was an article in the SJ Mercury News (very well known biased newspaper for Al and against Republicans - all). The article surprised me because it made fun of Al Gore. You see in the spring of 95 Al wanted the Internet to be government provided, a government set of nodes, a government back bone, government lines and you rent it all from the government. Try to find evidence of that today. Share it with me if you find it - I recall this article very clearly and it does not exist today. Al was selling out. He was visiting Silicon Valley to tout the need for private enterprise to move ahead in the telecommunications field. It was a major policy change for Al. It came with $100k contributions from IBM, Microsoft, AT&T, and numerous others. I berated Al in an editorial to the SJ Mercury News for selling out. I was glad he did, but thought people should hold him accountable for it.

My letter to the editor no longer exists on the Merc web site, I can't find it on the physical paper and never saw it in print anyway - only online on their web site. The article regarding Al selling out doesn't exist either. In fact I can't find a reference to Al supporting a government run Internet anywhere - yet I know it was out there.

POINT: When private industry wants something out of this govt they'll get it. When technology needs confidentiality we'll have it. When communications and market conditions warrant gauranteeing our privacy - they'll give it too us. BTW did you know APPLE recently patented at "virtual person" you can create? How do you think the NSA is going to handle snooping on the 300 million real Americans and the 1.5 billion fake one's?
