My wife & I began prepping with extra food & staples every payday.
We will soon be raising chickens, goats & rabbits & gardening with heirloom seeds.
We have applied for our FOIP cards & intend to defend what we have, we have networked with like-minded family & friends who know more than us, some have been prepping for over a year. :p
Wish we had started sooner.
We will have 20 broody-hen chicks in April as well as our 1st 2 nucs for bee-keeping. We will also be growing numerous fruit trees & vines & have 5 acres 3.5+ is available for planting.
We may put in a pond but have a pool we will rehab for a 35k gallon water reserve.
I would like to learn how to weld & am open to advice as to best & cheapest equipment for that, I am modifying a trailer for logging use I want to attach a winch, but I need to make a quick-release bracket because the weather here can be brutal on exposed electronics.

Welcome from Florida.
My wife only buys what's on sale at the supermarket. The sales go in cycles, I think every 8 weeks (I don't know, but SHE does) so that's how we stock up on canned goods. We buy 'em a case at a time. Coupons work well, also.
We keep chickens for eggs, at one time we had over 50 hens, now we try to keep it less than 15.
The wife likes to bake bread and figure out new ways to make meals with rice.
The vegetable garden went fallow the last couple of years due to reasons beyond our control, but this year it will return and the canner will be going this fall.
Remember what Confucious said: a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
