Start your BOB with a few good items and work from there. I would recommend to start:

Good sheath knife

Saw or hatchet (whichever style you prefer)

Fire making implements, tinder and ignition sources

Cotton or wool blanket

sharpener

signal mirror, whistle and blaze orange gloves (for waving your arms)

100feet of paracord

Tarp or rainfly

canteen, water bottle or steel can (maybe all three)

Hobo stove (easy build from a tin can)
