HI,
I am a "Retired Gentleman of Leisure" who's "prepping plans" are to go mobile ... at this time travelling around in a well equipped, self contained motorhome. I am a Canadian and will head South from beautiful Vancouver Island this Fall and spend a few months wandering around California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, etc. before heading to Mexico for the Winter.
aka ... another one of those darned Canucklehead SNOBIRDs!!

I have been to Mexico several times before ... backpacked through the Yucatan for 16 weeks, travelled around for 8 weeks in a motorhome, and did the Baja for 9 weeks on a big dual sport motorcycle. I intend to park my motorhome in Santispac and La Penita for most of the Winter. As a Canuck, we are allowed 182 days continuous ex-patriation before we lose our subsidised Medical benefits, so I intend to make the best of those 182 days. No more dingy, Grey, cold, WET Winters months for me.

I have been around the block a few times, and was what is now called a "Prepper" WAYYyyyyy back when we still called ourselves ""SURVIVALISTS". If you look at the premier Issue of the ancient and now defunct SURVIVE Magazine, I was one of the Contributing editors. I also had a weekly Outdoors column in the local newspaper when I lived in NORTHERN B.C. And once upon a time, I wrote a book about the outdoors,
THE BUDGET BACKPACKER.

I have a wide and varied skill set, including ex-military training as an Infantry Officer, extensive martial arts training, two decades in construction, and over a decade experience as a professional Gunsmith. We won't talk much about my last career ... two decades working in computer support for a large ruthless Govt organisation [ aka THE TAX MAN!] Come TEOTWAWKI, the comp skills probably won't be all that useful any how.
But EVERYONE will want a Gunsmith ... right??

My Lazerus2000 ID has been posting on various Firearms related sites for almost as long as the internet has been around. However, one of the reasons I don't like to call myself a "survivalist" any more is because of the OVER emphasis on weapons and planning primarily for violent confrontations that the old survival movement was so infamous for. I have always ben a pacifist, and prefer co-operation to violence ... preferably as a very well armed and well trained pacifist. And while I once was entitled to wear camo as a member of Canada's armed forces, I have never, Never, NEVER worn camo to a mall.
NOPE!
NOT NEVER!

I do however often dress up in FLOURESCENT spandex and lycra bicycling gear, with a "cargo vest" with bulging pockets that are just loaded up with all sorts of nifty "survival" gear, and sometimes forget to turn off the flashing Red tail lights and BRIGHT White strobe head light. This "Reverse Camo" has proven effective in many varied environments and with many so called "tough guys". Look away from the crazy clown .. don't make eye contact!!
[;{)

But today,
I am finally going to come out of the closet and label myself as a "Prepper". I watched a few of those National Geographic shows, and if those people can come out in public, why then so can I. I guess the stigma and shame of being a prepper/survivalist is now mostly a thing of the past.
OR NOT??

I will chip in here and there on this forum with information based on my real world experience on some of the topics that interest me. Hopefully I will learn so much more from the forums about what a prepper really is, and how to do it preperly.

And who knows ...
some day you might look up in your local Mall and a bright light might near blind you.
That would be me ...
the guy in the flourescent spandex and lycra ...
just another prepper ...
running dark and running deep and running under the radar.

Welcome from Texas! OK, since someone else has broken the Lycra ceiling, I too will confess that I wear proper cycling attire when I ride. It's important to note that the further away from our bike that we go, the more ridiculous we look.

It is, however, so very true that most people adapt the "don't look! don't make eye contact!" strategy when in public places.

I have to admit that my "bucket list" includes riding down Florida to The Keys on a motorcycle.
I guess too many Jimmy Buffet songs have stuck in my head.
"Bermuda .. Bahamas ... come on pretty mommas .."

I have already have done the West Coast tip of Baja and back on a motorcycle, and doing Florida by motorcycle seems like it might be fuin as well.

I nearly did that ride last fall, but instead sold my motorcycle and bought a motorhome.
A motorhome wouldn't be quite the same.

Maybe I can rent a big BMW GS some where in Florida for a few days??

Welcome from North Florida. I am a refugee from South Florida, where I grew up. Got too crowded with refugees from elsewhere. At least the Canadians had the decency to spend their money and then go back home.:D
And if you think you're old, I can remember when Robert E. Lee's birthday was a state holiday.::clapping::
