Plant a garden if you can, using heirloom seeds, many brands are available on the net & each acre you plant yields 50 acres of seeds, & these are like gold in a barter economy that may be forthcoming.
ONE female rabbit can produce 800 pounds of meat in a year, with a mate
Chickens are easy to keep & goats are a rich source (best pound-for-pound) of milk &/or meat.
Housing for all 3 can be made from pallets, & they can be found for free if you just ask around a bit.
We are doing all this & we buy a few extra food items as we can every payday.
In April we start with the chickens & some bees.
I have collected over 75 pallets from local sources & paid no more than a dollar for some, most were free of course, but the paid one have several 2x4's included & can be salvaged.
