Hey fella’s, my names Brent. Iv been having people come into my work lately telling me about the importance of staying ready for disasters of any kind. Wasn’t sure where to start gathering information from until I found this forum. I would appreciate any basic advice. (Mabye what kind of items I should have, self defense, alternative currency ect.)

Howdy and welcome.

First, I would caution against "staying ready for disasters of any kind." At least at first...
Do a personal assessment. What do you consider the most likely event you should be ready to respond to? Chinese invasion? Probably not. Job loss? Much more likely.
Write down some events you think could happen within the next 6 to 12 months that you'd like to be ready for. Prioritize them by likelihood.
Start small and work toward the most likely scenario.
Save up a month's worth of expenses so you could pay your bills if that's still possible. When grocery shopping, put a few extra cans of non-perishable foods into your basket. Don't go crazy. A few extra each week really adds up quickly.
Start to assess your personal needs. What medications does your family require? Can you get longer refills for prescriptions? Do you have a means to keep warm during the cold if you lose power? Small propane heaters are great if you know how to close off rooms and confine yourself. Have a plan for ventilation.
These are just some things off the top of my head that are easy for anyone to start doing.

If you have specific questions, feel free to search or ask.

Welcome, welcome!!

Where to begin? Maybe make it a starter goal to have a month's worth of supplies on hand. If possible every time you go to the store, pick up two shelf stable items instead of one. Small steps over time will add up.

Hearty welcome from DFW, Texas. From what I can gaher a person needs water..food..and ammo and in that order. Now a nice lady who used to hang on here named Toronto Girl survived the collapse of the USSR in the Ukraine as a Tenny Bopper said the hot barter items are cigarettes. Vodka and toliet paper. So it might be good to stock those items too

Sounds like a great place to start! Thank you for your response. As far as “barter items” go, what are your thoughts on small denominations of silver (as in coins or bars) and gold?

Personally, I prep for days like today.
In my part of Texas, there is currently 1/2" of ice on the roads and the whole area is closed down. It could last another day, it could last half a week. We don't salt down here. Don't ask me why...
But I don't worry about it anymore because I have acquired the means to keep my family fed, hydrated, warm, and comfortable, even if we lose all power.

I also prepare for what I think will eventually be a global shift in the money system and a push toward a "one-world-government".
I'm well aware that our constitution is not regarded in the same way as when it was first drafted, but I'm a sucker for nostalgia, and that's the system I agree to live under.
Any other that is antithetical to it will be opposed and resisted. For this reason, I have more than just food, water, and blankets. I believe that it could become necessary to defend my family from the chaos that this type of societal change could trigger. So I have ample means of defense, and plans to remove myself and my family from the chaos if it ever comes.

Basically, just to be in good shape temporally and spiritually during increasingly difficult times. I know that's vague, but it's not possible to know exactly what the future holds. In past generations putting back necessary supplies and being a good Christian was an acceptable way of life. That's what I try to do.

Toronto Girl said it was not totally worthless..but Mamas antique silver tea pot could be traded for a few packs of smokes. She said cats were a delicacy they called roof rabbits..and her Mama made soap out of dog fat in the back yard. Not sure what happened to her but she had some great tips on surviving a collapse of a country.
