Hi, new member here.

Just an regular American, former military and veteran of foreign wars.

I lurk, therefore I am. No point in giving away any information online.

One question--is the point of a BOB for when your own house it out of food and water? I guess I would only leave shelter if no food/water existed anymore.

Cheers,
Nuklhed

Thanks, everyone, for making me feel welcome.

Anyone have any thoughts about whether to leave your house or not?

Welcome aboard Nuklhed...
The general purpose of a BOB is for when your home is suddenly about to become unsafe for any reason.
In some areas, severe weather (hurricane's, tornado's, etc.) can be motivation to bug out. Other things like wildfires, hazmat spills, flooding and such can make "bugging-in" a bad idea.

Welcome from Nevada, and thank you for your service. You'll find a lot of Vets, Retirees and some active, so you should feel at home here. I wouldn't worry to much about "giving away information on line", I have been convince for years that "they" already know what you have even if its no more than a Bowie Knife and a box of C rations.

Welcome from Texas, glad to have you here with us.

In my humble opinion and I think most here will agree...a BOB is for when you can no longer remain at your home for what ever reason and need to make a hasty retreat to safer or higher ground. It should be able to get you to your new destination and hold you over with the things you need to allow you some time to re-establish yourself. While few plan to be a refugee, the fact is there are a lot of reason why you might have to leave the comfort of home and head somewhere else. Im a retired military vet and I have been to dozens of countries where due to weather events or political strife and war many have had to "bug out" and go some place safer whether they wanted to leave or not.

If I am at my BOL . Then a bag is of no use. But What if I am in Milwaukee when STHF? The BOB has items I may need if other plans to get out of town fail.
It is my second chance to get away.
Welcome.

Welcome to the forum from Ca.
A bob is as individual as your fav foods.
I live in an urban center, so my bob is for me to get the F out of here.
As others have said, they live at or near their BOL and dont require a conventional bob. There bob may be more of a day pack so they can gather foods, or a pack made to travel lightely to ascertain nearby threats.
I have one in my truck that is designed to facilitate speed as well as self sustainment.
Bobs are person specific, so dont let people tell you that you dont need a certain item...unless it truly is useless (like a dvd collection or something like that).
