Need some input on a rifle for my wife

Hi everyone
I own a few guns and sold some of them so I could consolidate the ammo I need down to 4 or 5 different rounds.i was thinking of getting my wife a 9mm of some sort. But I've never shot any other handgun round rifle other than a hipoint 9mm and it was a good shooter but I didn't like the mags you had to buy for it. I was thinking of getting a kel tec sub 2000 in 9mm so the ammo will match the handguns I already have. Do any of you have experience with this gun.also in considering getting the kel tec su16 for myself. Just looking for some info on these.
Thanks James.

I like this one...

STAG ARMS SA3 RIGHT HAND 5.56 X 45 (.223)

What is that maintenance/reliability like on a non piston ar and how many rounds can be put through one before cycling issues start happening?
Yep, it's a nice model for the money. You can go whatever way you want with BUIS (backup iron sights) and have good room for mounting optics like an Aimpoint or Eotech if you want.

Stags site,

I've used and really like the mbus sights
Thanks for the help btw

I have a SU-16. A buddy came by with it needing some money. Took it out once. Fired good and was accurate. The bi pod seems a little flimsy, but it take all AR mags. The take down pin comes out and then you have to keep it in your pocket. I would rather it have a catch or something like an AR so there is no chance of losing it. Fold up as good as a Ruger TakeDown. Gave 400 for it. Might have been a little high but hey its another tool to annoy my wife. She hates black guns. She thinks they all should have nice shiney wood like a Browning.

Just make note though with that model, the gas block has a shorter height than the receiver rail so using Mbus's you'll need to mount the front on the handguard rail which will reduce the sight radius a little. While as much as I like Stag, they really should change that. A good front sight to overcome that though is a Midwest MCTAR-FFG for a lower gas block. And their rear ERS sight would make a good set.

Midwest Industries: Flip Up Front Sight

Midwest Industries: ERS (Emergency Rear Sight)
I think the perfect rifle for any lady is an AR 15 carbine, standard barrel chambered in .223/5.56. That huge buffer spring makes it virtually recoil free, they are light, effective, accurate, reasonably priced and most importantly simple and fun to shoot.

Get a 9mm, for the cost and availability of ammunition it is the logical choice, the next best if the .40 as it is a law enforcement (rights suppression) round.
Let her pick it out. She will be a lot happier about it. If she doesn't like black guns then don't push them. Be available to answer questions provide support and above all be positive.

Man those are sweet, I've wanted one since they came out. I think it would be to much for her....now for me..... It would look good on the rack inside my jeep😁
I'm still partial to lever-action .357 mags...great compliment to the GP-100 I carry. Low to no recoil depending on the round your shooting...10+ rounds depending on which gun, and classic looks (no black gun scariness)
I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout and love it. The wife looks at it an says Oh that's nice. She really has no interest in it beyond being nice to me about it. She has guns "Her Guns" That's a different thing, don't believe me? ask her...Those are Her guns!

She has a 30-30 that she hunts with and a 30 carbine for recreational shooting and defense. Plus a .38 special that she shoots very well.
She picked them out, they are hers in every sense of the word and my part in this is to keep her supplied with ammo, trust me on this you do not want to be out shooting and tell the wife you didn't bring enough ammo for her. Bring plenty and then some.

Were these guns ones I'd have picked for her No! are these guns she'll pick up and shoot, Yes! and in the greater schemes of things I'll take that as a win.

Just wait until she asks if it comes in any other colors.
Some actually do come in different colors...
For those that don't there is always Dura cote...
I'd do that for my wife...may not be happy about it yet, if it was a gun she liked and wished it came in a different color, I'd do that for her.
I told my wife to go with basic black, you can wear it to work and afterwards, add a string of pearls and wear it out on the town or to a formal get together. Black goes with anything and everything.

Best idea I've had all morning. Ask her what she wants! Then, go with that!

Fortunately my wife isn't into the brightly colored guns, yet if she were, I'd make them what ever color she wanted. I'm not about to suggest or even hint that it's an option.
I have a CMMG .22lr conversion for my AR15, makes it cheaper to shoot. It would be easy to get your wife to shoot the relatively quiet .22 and it only takes a minute to switch it back to .223 if you need more power.
So we made the choice that I would get an ar15 first and let my wife shoot mine and get use to it before we went out and got her one. On Saturday I ended up going to the gun shop I always go to and talked to the guys there about what I wanted. And I ended up with this

http://www.core15rifles.com/core15-m4-piston-rifle-100279.html#product2

(Mine does not have a front sight)
I was kinda worried because I've never seen the brand before but they told me out of all the people they have sold them to they haven't had any issues and if I had any issues just bring it to them and they will take care of it. Now all I need to do is get some flip up sights and find a good low powered scope for it. another plus is they are made in Florida .

That's sounds like a smart idea. You end up with a nice AR and she see's if she likes it too. Congrat's. The Core piston AR's are built off the Adams Arms system and have a good reputation. I haven't heard anyone yet with a problem. Even if they did, I'm sure they'd fix it and pretty much any issue is fixable. A piston AR is not like a direct impingement AR. They can run very well on a light lubrication of grease for the receiver components and springs. Do not lubricate the gas system. Leave the block, spigot and inner piston cup dry except for wiping them down with a lightly oiled rag. I use CLP and Tetra grease theses days and have for a long time. The whole piston system is melonite treated which gives is very good corrosion resistance and a lower friction rate.

I do lightly grease everywhere beyond the piston cup towards the receiver like the op rod spring and area of the op rod contacting with the barrel nut and receiver entrance, besides all the receiver components and buffer spring and tube. It runs like a top and everything slide much smoother. It is not recommended though using Magpul polymer Mbus sights on a piston AR block because of the heat level there. That's where the majority of the heat and carbon goes as it was designed to be and take it. The spent gas after pushing the op rod back shoots forward right towards the front sight. I recommend getting some good aluminum BUIS like PRI's or Midwest. I've got mine in a pretty dedicated iron sight setup using an RRA A2 carrying handle rear sight and a POF hooded front with a .034 KNS post which I have used in setup on previous piston AR's I've had too and love the setup. It's light, accurate and fast, but it's not great for optics. Folding BUIS are with all the picatinny railed mounts that are out there today like Larue's and others.
