I have seen some supper nice little rifles that shoot magnum handgun rounds, I.E. .357 magnum and .44 magnum, the reason that these are a terrible idea is the rounds are very expensive.
What do you want the rifle for. Shooting squirrel, the obvious answer is a .22 L.R. rifle and handgun.
Shooting deer, none of the above is a great deer round, ( I don't want to hear from you about your .44 .357 etc etc great deer rifle bullshit, it is barely sufficient, I have used .44 mag on several white tail, it was barely sufficient)
Personal defense, and hunting, a .22 magnum is a mid range expense round, it will get by for a personal defense handgun round, makes a fantastic small game round, and it is the preferred deer poaching round.
