I came across this and find it to be very true IMO.. Everyone is blaming guns but nobody is actually speakin about the mental health or medication issue.. I came across this earlier and thought I would repost it here..

AKE UP! I'm reposting this from earlier to EXPOSE this FACT, and HOPEFULLY get some more debate on the SOURCE of the PROBLEM:In 1957 there were over 500,000 institutionalized in State Mental Institutions and we had reasonable involuntary commitment laws. We had no modern "gun control" laws, could buy your M1 Carbine through the mail along with all the 30 round magazines you wanted- yet mass random shootings NEVER HAPPENED! Was 1957 America a police state? Doctors and judges made the decision who to keep in the loony bin, and they could not get out until they were no longer a threat to self or a public threat. You still had the rights to a lawyer and judge to prove your sanity and get out if there was no basis for the decision.

Today we have emptied and closed the State Mental Institutions, created the homeless population, made involuntary commitment impossible until AFTER you commit a crime- and then try and blame guns for the actions of the mental patients! Jared Laughner- parents tried to get him help at least twice but were turned down for lack of insurance, neighbors said he would ride around on his bike talking to himself, school said he was unbalanced, EXPELLED him for his disruptive irrational outbursts- in the PAST he would have been institutionalized long before he shot Gabby based on his obvious illness! Virginia Tech- school teachers said he was unbalanced, he had been IN a mental institution before- in the PAST he would have been institutionalized based on his obvious behavior! Colorado- His college psychiatrist was so alarmed by Holmes that she had him banned from the campus, but nothing else. Colorado media, including the Denver Post, reported that his school psychiatrist Fenton rejected a law enforcement offer to involuntarily confine Holmes for 72 hours after he told her six weeks before the shooting that he fantasized about killing "a lot of people." In the PAST- she could have had him involuntarily committed BEFORE he hurt anyone, you didn't have to wait until they were an imminent threat to themselves or others! What was even the POINT of him trying to get help from the psychiatrist when all she did was ban him from the school? Even Charles Whitman in 1966, the first of these crazed mass shooters warned authorities before hand by seeking help from Texas University's school psychiatrist- repeatedly! He had severe migraine headaches and extreme anger that HE knew was irrational, turned out he had a BRAIN TUMOR- discovered AFTER his death! He even told his psychiatrist he was fantasizing about shooting people from the tower! If his school psychiatrist had remotely done his job he would have gotten the help he sought. To this day Texas University won't release all of Whitman's medical records, claiming the deceased "right to privacy"- so the school won't be SUED!

The Newtown CT shooting- Mother was so scared of her son she told sitters not to turn their backs on him even if they went to the bathroom, was in the process to allow her to involuntarily commit him- but with him not having committed a crime involuntary commitment is virtually impossible and there is no where to send him. In the State of Connecticut, you cannot even use someone's past history of violence or past psychiatric history against them in an involuntary commitment case. 40 years ago he would have been institutionalized in a State Mental Institution based on his behavior. You know where one of the largest State Mental Institution in Connecticut is? NEWTOWN- its been CLOSED for DECADES! This is NOT a "gun control" issue! Now the Governor has ordered the State Police report which was supposed to come out in August sealed in the Connecticut case, so the public will never be able to learn what really happened and draw an appropriate legislative response. Politics controlling the debate, rather than FACTS.

In this latest incident at the Naval Yard, the shooter had been arrested in the past for shooting out the tires on a construction worker's vehicle, claiming he had "blacked out". He had shot a hole through his upstairs neighbor's floor, claiming it was an ""accident". she claimed he constantly complained of "noise" and she lived in fear of him. He called the police to complain people were "following him", complained of "noise" coming from his hotel closet, had changed hotels three time to get away from the "noise". He was being treated for psychiatric issues, complained of "hearing voices". 40 years ago he would have been in a State Mental Institution getting treatment instead of killing 12 people and dying in the process.

I',m not sure how true it is but I guess we will never know about Sandy Hook now that the governor is sealin the records.. There are some CRAZY ****IN PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY and we just skirt the issue because god forbid you say something about a retarded person!!! I'm not sayin everyone with mental health issues are bad.. But safety should come before political correctness..

So true, some valid points to consider..I guess the way I was raised has something to do with my perception, But I feel men would rather talk about erctile disfunction, hemmoroids, anything is open, EXECPT mental issues..Have i had serious mental issues, yes, and It took a few years to admit to myself that I needed help. Then a few months and loosing 180 pounds, I fell into the blackness..If you have ever had some depression, youll know kinda what I mean.Amazingly, just a little pill, and a lot of self reflection, and coming to terms with myself, and I feel like a person again. The thing I would like to stress is, reach out, talk to someone. I couldn't find any local support groups here in my area, and just called my doctor and said, " I gotta see you NOW." and spilled the secret..If anyone ever needs to reach out, Im here. I dont have any education, just my experience, but if ANYONE needs a peptalk or just someone to "bang away on a keyboard with", Im here..D.

This has been an ongoing issue for many years, when NY closed all the Psych Centers those people all ended up on the streets. Once they hit the streets they started committing crimes which landed a lot of them in prison so now all those mental patients are either on the street or in prison. You can see these people wandering the streets of any small city and NYC is infamous for it's street walkers. This is a problem that needs to be addressed but probably never will be.

There is another side to this coin that's going unmentioned also and that is gun free zones. Any of these people looking to maximize the damage that they do knows where to go, you go somewhere where no one can fight back. Gun free zones represent the perfect killing fields to these people. Unfortunately the gun control debate in this country has absolutely nothing to do with curbing violence but has everything to do with making it harder for law abiding citizens to own guns.

There lies the conundrum, Medical records are sealed and the only way that they are revealed is if the subject answers honestly on the NIX form when purchasing a firearm, or they were arrested because of a crime that revealed the mental illness. In many cases a mentally ill person is overlooked. How many times have you heard on the news from witnesses that lived next to a serial killer, “He was so quiet.” Or “He was such a nice person I never would have suspected it.”

We need to reopen the mental institutions that were closed in the 70's and start committing people to said institutions who are either a danger to themselves or the public at large. If the Progressives want a healthcare issue that average American would get behind and even have the conservatives onboard. That would be the one.

Politicians apparently don't see a need for mental institutions IMO it's because they are insulated from having contact with the crazies. The average middle class American isn't so lucky.

The question is what about those that have mental problems that never hurt anyone?

KFK's father had a mentally handicapped daughter. When she became an adult she became promiscuous so he had a doctor give her a lobotomy. It makes one wonder if all the family tragedies stem from that cruelty.

Granted, the majority of people with mental issues are no harm to themselves or others. It is the small percent that have the violent tendencies.. Those are the ones that are crazier than a shithouse rat we have to worry about..

I remember when I was a kid, we had a family move in next door. I was about 9-10 and they had a son that was about 14 at the time.. We would go fishing and stuff and he started acting wierd. First he started stealing stuff. His parents were millionaires and bought him anything he wanted but he would still steal everything he could. My grandma used to say he would steal the eyes out of Jesus Christ if he could get to em.. Then he would be talking to himself and come to find out he was killing neighborhood pets. I found a cat one time that had it's paws tied behind it's back, had it's eyes pokes out and had a Columbian necktie.. We could never prove it but I know it was him. He was always talking about columbian neckties.. Then when he was about 16 or so he started in drugs and stuff. We always said he would end up in jail.. He is now in Georgia on death row from last I talked to his sister a few years ago.. Apparently he set up something and killed his roommate and roommates girlfriend.. He had it all planned out and beat them over the heads with a 4bbl carburator..

The point is, he was arrested as a kid many times and even seen a shrink a few times.. Everyone knew he was crazier than a shithouse rat but nothing was ever done.. These are the loony bastards that need to be smacked in the head with a hammer!! Now, we are spending $100k a year to house his sorry ass to boot.. What a great country this is turnin out to be...

My question is should the SHTF in such a way that people who require being medicated to function in society cease to get their medication, how many will go wall climbing nuts? That definitely adds another dimension to S hitting the fan.

We use to deal with them. But the liberals and Socialist took every body and there brother to court. Suing for this and that violation of rights.
Can't make them stay on meds can't make them get help can't detain them.
We gave up and let everyone run the streets.
How many of you remember that?
