FYI

This was brought to my attention on another forum. I'm not Mormon, and you don't have to be a Mormon to go to their centers for bulk foods. They are reportedly offering the following:

1-#10 can of beans
1-#10 can of rice
1-#10 can rolled oats
1-#10 can flour
1-#10 can red wheat
1-#10 can white wheat

For $31 on line (not sure of shipping) OR $20.xx change at one of their locations and there are many. At $21 for 6 cans of goods that will last 30 years (longer than me) its a pretty good deal. You can find one of their food bank / type locations here:

They suggest you call if you are going to a local location. Not all of their centers will sell to non-Mormans. (I read this on their site awhile back)

I also heard that they are phasing out their bulk canneries that used to let customers pack their own food to save a little money. From what I have read, they will be offerig the foods pre-packaged at the same price you would have paid if you packed it yourself.

Thanks for the heads up Ripon, I'll probably order some online.

Aren't you required to work at the center before you can buy the food? I thought I read that somewhere.

I've obtained some rice and beans from the center in Stockton, CA. There was no request to volunteer, join the church, or do anything but seal the cans myself which they very politely showed me how. I'll go back there on Tuesday when they are open ( they keep limited hours ). I was told the self canning was terminated due to several state health dept rules and they simply decided to phase it out.
