Commercial airlines have had sky marshals on select flights for years. In addition to
that I'd say at least 3/4 of flight crews are armed under a federal program (see link)

Why not do something similar in schools? A school marshal could mingle with the crowd, cycle thru 3 or 4 other schools in the district
so the kids won't notice the same person wandering around every day. To the kids I think they would just think
it's a substitute teacher. The school marshals would need to know the map of the school they are working and obviously go thru
initial and re-current training!

I can only think of one time where an armed airline pilot crossed the line and had a negligent discharge in his A-320 and bullet went thru
the skin of the aircraft and didn't cause any issues. The captain should not have been handling the pistol! Countless flights everyday crews are armed
we certainly could do the same with schools and perhaps include teachers and staff in the program. Thoughts??

Because it would be politically incorrect. Guns are evil and dangerous. Hence, gun-free schools. You can't have a gun in a school. You can't talk about them. You can't draw one. You can't write a story about them. You can't even think about them. If you do, every student, teacher and faculty member will die.

At least that's the conventional wisdom. Those who fought so hard to make schools easy targe.......err...... totally safe from guns will not allow it. These are the same people who refute "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a fun", yet when there's a bad guy with a gun, they call 911 for the good guys with guns to come stop him.

I would have liked to know that a responsible and trained armed person was at a school my kids were attending.
Currently, any stranger on school grounds sends the school into immediate lockdown mode.
It might be therefore necessary to have a meeting of all faculty each morning to identify that days marshal.
Alternatively, merely have all principals and vice principals required to be trained and to conceal carry each day... part of the job description.

Here's some informal food for thought:

To put 3 armed, trained guards in each school in the US, for 40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, at a ridiculously low $10 per hour, would amount to approximately 4.7 billion per school year.

THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS!!!


That's also approximately 21% of the amount we will spend on foreign aid this year.

Good point C D . Maybe focus on the school principal and asst and put them thru a similar program the pilots go thru.
No easy answers right now and what one person likes the next person doesn't! We'll see what shakes out over the next few
weeks it will be interesting!

Economics prohibits the hiring of enough guards. @SDF880 basic premises would be the solution.Allow local School boards to allow teachers to voluntarily complete federally designated training and have legislation that prohibits the ACLU or anyone else from launching injunctions and lawsuits to stop it. If the local school board votes down implementing this, the next shooting is partially on the heads of local parents and school board members. The rest on the nut case that did it. Not the county, state or federal officials. Not the second amendment. Not on firearms enthusiasts.
