With specifics unknown, my mind always wanders to the VERY long term...
What will society have lost if we get hit with a HEMP and are back to the Medieval age for decades in some places. The chaos and destruction that follows will wreak havock on our way of life. Institutions of all kinds will burn. Resources will be cut off and hoarded. To say it will be a tough time would be the understatement of the century.
To prepare for something like that:
School textbooks
Supply of various leathers and bolts of fabric with thread
Rendered fat and lye
Supply of, or source for, lamp wicks
Archery implements
Durable hand tools
Detailed literature on identifying/handling complications while delivering a baby
And others that don't come to mind at the moment...
That may have been way far out in left field from what you had in mind, but it's late, and that's where my head goes sometimes.
Of course, if this plays out, we'll just be invaded by whatever force did it and be no resistance at all. So who knows if it's worth thinking about anyways.

A lot of Military spec stuff from the cold war days is hardened and older electronics with vacuum tubes could survive, Mothballed cars from before the computer chip days would work after an EMP Chemical based products like dummy explosives, chem lights, flares and guns. The military could mount a defense with a mix of modern and older tech. As far as the supply side ammo can be produced without power by hand or bought the same with food
They'll sure try, but there's no way our modern fighting force will hold out with that old tech. They aren't trained on it and have no experience with it. We don't have the numbers either. Also, they will be too busy acting as humanitarians.
I just don't have confidence we will resist.

Sorry you don't have much faith in us folks from fly over land. I keep in touch with a goodly number of my old timer partners and while we may eventually lose in the long run, the other folks are gonna know theyv'e been in a tussle.
I'm guessing that you won't be giving up very easily will you?
I was responding to a comment specifically about the U.S. military.
Numbers have been tanking. Standards have been lowered. Our current military is not what it used to be, sadly.

Plenty needles and thread along with buttons of various sizes.
Whatever tools you have that are powered, see if you can get manually operated ones (i.e. drill).
Tarps. When HF used to give out free tarps with purchase I stocked up. You never know when one might come in handy. Since they stopped giving the free ones away I bought couple larger sized ones.

Several types of scissors, a double edge razor, tools to sharpen our various edge tools
