Anyone have thoughts on which kind of boots would be best? Would you use a specific kind of high boot? What kind of clothing or brands might be useful? I don't get as much exposure to high quality survival gear up here and was wondering what the US has.

As far as boots go, I've settled on LL Bean Gore-tex Cesta Hikers ( Men's Gore-Tex Cresta Hikers, Leather: Hiking Boots | Free Shipping at L.L.Bean ). I'm on my second pair in ten years. They're a very comfortable fit right out of the box, wear really well, very dry, but breath well and have a large toe-box (warm). The only down side is that they are a little heavy by the end of the day. I buy the all-leather version, not the fabric ones.

Danner Ft Lewis boots. Not cheap but can be resoled, wear like iron and are comfortable from day one. Get the insulated ones as mine are not to hot in summer and help in winter....unless u live in Las Vegas.
