My wife and I have been tossing around ideas for a secure area for storage and security. We live in an area of tornadoes. We have looked at many ideas others have such as burying metal cargo containers, different types of above ground facilities, etc. We came up with an idea that completes two problems we have. One is a secure storage area for supplies and a shop building for other work. We decided on a new basement below part of the shop building. I have experience in construction with limited experience in basements and the like. Very few houses here have basements. I understand how to build the cinder block walls for the basement but not how to tie in the block wall to the concrete slab. The total shop will be a 30' X 40' and the basement will be in the back half (30 x 20). The back area will be covered with 5/8" sturdy floor material over gluelam beams and "I" joists.
My question is = how do I tie together the block wall and the concrete slab to keep them from separating over time. Help with this question and any other ideas in this area would be appreciated.
thanks,
