I try and talk to my friends and no one really gets why I store food and seeds and other supplies. I try and explain that if somthing was to happen I am prepared but they just don't understand. They think I garden for fun. Or dehydrate for fun. Or can food for fun. It's not fun it's survival. So I'm looking for new friends here.

Here's what you do. You forget the word "prepping" and tell your friends you're into guns and hoarding. It goes over way better. COLLECTIONS too that's a good excuse. "You guys wanna see my gun and survival gear collection?" For me it's my "Hunting stuff" you guys want to see all my hunting stuff? (nobody has ever said no) AND it's in a man cave setting, so they be like "hey what's that bag of rice for?" and I say "Rice keeps metal stuff dry, like cars and phones when you get them wet you pack them in dry rice." OH! that's pretty cool. (sip of beer) What do you do with that bush man suit thing, hunt deer? "Hunt DUCKS." OH that's cool.

Hi neighbor. I'm from Washington also. what part of WA?
I'm also a girl and all the preppers I know in person (not forum preppers) are all women. Women have always been the ones to do the storing and planning for the foods needs of the family while the traditional male role is the hunter and protector. there are probably a lot more women around you that are preppers and don't even realize it.
If you want to get your friends and family on board you have to do it gently and easy them into it because, unfortunately the word prepper has become a joke. we will probably always look like we are the crazy ones until a disaster strikes and they want to share your preps.
you can ease them into it by doing things like taking them shopping with you. I did this several times with a co worker who has 6 kids. what a mess that would be in a disaster. I would tell her I was going to stop at such and such store on the way home because of a case sale, a good price on ...... and then tell her something like I buy by the case and that way I don't have to buy again for several months. It will save me money because I don't have to buy again until it goes on sale again next time. I don't have time to shop, so I buy a lot every time I go so I always have it available.
eventually you will start to influence their thinking and they wont even know they are prepping too.

You're definitely not alone. My wife's a prepper, sort of. At least she doesn't discourage my prepping. Sometimes she'll even help, as in, "Hey babe, we're down to only 24 laundry detergents." It's not great, but I'll take what I can get.

A. You are FAR from being the only one. I know lots of female preppers.

B. Prepping is a male term. If you strip away the names, labels, and jargon, prepping is actually very maternal. It goes along with nesting and making sure the family unit is domestically insulated from change.

C. Tell your friends "look at this great idea I got off of Pinterest!" Then you can show them anything as long as you feed them salad out of a mason jar every now and again to break up the conversation.

In this day and age, I must admit you seem to be in the minority.
You didn't mention if you're a mom, but I assume not. I see parents
(but not many) becoming more concerned with making sure their
children are protected and have something to eat in time of need.
So yah, you are in the minority.
