As with probably the entire human race, I have been getting distracted lately. mostly due to being stressed, and have found myself forgetting things. I would be working in the kitchen and then walking to my home office to google something, like a recipe, and like the phone would ring, or there is a knock at the door, and by the time I get to my computer I end up staring at the screen bewildered on what I came there to do.

I just got out my digital voice recorder from storage, thinking that I could use this device to help remind me on things like shopping lists, my To Do List, and what have you. I just never thought I would have to remind myself to remove my keys form the garbage room door.

I had brought out my garbage and recyclables, put the key in the door, and as I opened the door I realized I needed 2 hands to maneuver around all the crap people left on the ground. Due to being lazy, I had left my front door open, so when I got home I simply went upstairs and continued cleaning. The next day, Sunday morning, I walked down to get my paper, and as I got to my front door, I noticed my spare keys were missing.

Took me a few minutes to realize what happened, and as I was searching my home for those spare keys it dawned upon me where I left them: In the garbage room door lock. I usually have 2 spare keys, one for my home and garbage room, and one for my vehicle (it is a chip key, and this particular key had the right key cuts to open the door, but the chip was not programmed so it wouldn't start my truck). This time, I waS too lazy, and having both hands full, I grabbed them both.

Well, as luck has it, this morning I called management & it turns out one of the maintenance workers found my keys & brought them into the management office. So when I got home, I hung a written reminder on the top of the stairs on my multitier shelf rack, "Do you have your keys you idiot!!!" It all boils down to a self-inflicted SHTF scenario, I put my home , possessions, and myself at risk from my absentmindedness.

It reminded me of that guy that owned a Tesla electric car that had a chip inserted under his skin to start his car. Now if only I can get my board to have a chip enabled garbage room door lock.....

Well, Getting Old Sucks... Already been doing that old man grunt when I get up for years...

Think my grandfather had the right approach for his & my personality. He started doing the following years prior to really needing to, so that it would be a 'muscular reflex'. He had a couple of notepads that he left in his 'go to ' spot. This is where he had a bowl for his house keys, remote control for TV, etc..

One of these pads was a checklist for his medications. Next was his To Do List where he would checkmark his completion of his daily routines such as brushing teeth, shaving, prepare breakfast, go to bank, etc.& last his Calendar for his Dr appointments and what not. He also had 'Stick It" memo notes around his place.

Hmm, come to think about it, I am now wondering if there ever will come the day that I would forget to buy the hooch.

If you can remember that you forgot your keys or the likes you could look into a Bluetooth tracker, we have trackers on our newer keys for work. My wife carries a tracker on her keys that does a jingle when you use your phone to search for it.

Good idea, I had bought some for my Ex while we were still together a few years back. I just finished putting a sign on my bottom door and up on top stairwell to check for my keys. Also hope that this embarrassment I caused myself and posted also keeps this problem in check.

Stay humble, we all make mistakes, simple ones are forgivable. Just remember when the wendigo gets whispering not to follow it into the woods unless you have a knife sharp enough to cut it's frozen heart out.
