Asparagus once started can be allowed to grow wild From seed it takes a few years to cut crop from it from sets half the time but once you have it going 15-25 years of food. You can plant it most anywhere grass grows and it will do just fine on it's own . In season where you live you harvest, then allow it to go to seed , more next year. If you wish to have a managed bed it will produce huge amounts so food in a small area. Also during season you can go out and harvest everyday. It can be eaten raw of cooked many ways it can be canned.
My patch is now over 30 years old I have over the years rotated in new sets and different Verities. It has never had a baron year. I give away more than I currently use.
Wild stuff grows in the ditches here and is harvest even now by many as free food.

We have wild asparagus here in Colorado too... This seems like another good "pre-seed your BOL" plant. Good call Smitty.
