I found Maseca is a high calorie product and super cheap. A 4.4lb bag runs about $2.50 and yields 6600 calories. That is a lot of tortillas - which are super easy to make! Whenever I shop, I always try to get the most food per dollar and this is a super cheap food that is very filling.

Too bad Twinkies are gone......great shelf life !!!

Little Debbie makes 'Clouds' that look like Twinkies.....
but I don't think they have a 'storage history' yet.

Flour [masa harina] is hard to keep bugs out of, even in
airtight plastic containers.
I even had some in a vacuum sealed bag....I think the
bugs are already in it when you buy it.
The freezer is best, as long as you have power.
It will stay fresh too.

I grind my flour from seed....
if I have any left at the time, it goes in the freezer.

Spam will keep for ages in a cool pantry.
Treet is basically the same as Spam, but
cheaper [$1.38 @ wal-mart] although the Spam
people claim their product is much better.

Vienna Sausage is another with long shelf life.
And only about $.50 per can.

Jalapenos
Beenie-Weenies
Canned Kidney beans
Tomato sauce and paste
Tuna
Sardines
Oreo cookies
Lard

Are a few I can think of
that we have tested well over
5 years with excellent results.
Some of the sardines were over 8yrs old
and identical to fresh cans to test against.
