Hey guys I bought a Wilderness Solutions fire piston.
Seems to only like charcloth, wont even light tissue paper or dead wood.

Any experience with one?

Seems interesting, but looks hard to use (you have to pull out the smoldering material by hand!?).
Seems useful in ideal situations..

I just use plain old ferro rods. Dirt cheap, easy, and always reliable. All different sizes can be found here... Going Gear - Survival

They never looked that good to me and I'm very comfortable with firesteels.

Magnesium block, knife, and flint steel on the side. Lights just about everything and only cost a few frn's. Besides, if I were to carry anything around my neck, I assure you it would be a compass.

I haven't tried any but would really like to get my hands on one, not for 100 bones though, I just need to get a mag block and save 90 bucks.

ferro rod and some cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly can get you a fire going in damp conditions even. Not sure if a fire piston could do that and a fire piston relies on a tight seal, not sure how long it would last under constant use.

Don't know, just another tool for the arsenal.
I do have ferro rods, endless match, flint & steel & others.
Figure I would try another 400 year old method that sparked an interest.

I have a Blastmaster and Strikeforce and they both contain a 1/2" x 2" Ferro Rod which I had for years and in my opinion Ferro Rods are the longest lasting and trouble free way that can get a fire started in all conditions, even if you put it in water just wipe it off and you are ready to go. I think if I were going to buy one now I would look into this company because they sell the blank Ferro Rods and for $23 dollars you could get 1/2" x 5" Basicily two Blastmasters or Strikeforces for the same price. Get as thick of a rod as you can because the thicker the rod the more sparks it give off. I also see that they make a 1"x 6" but it cost $169.
