For Christmas I was given a dehydrator and a dehydrator cook book. The one thing that I have really not found too much info on in the book is how long will the food I dehydrate last for?

Also which foods have the best results for your time?

Thanks

if you get ALL of the water out of it, it will keep a quite awhile indeed. I keep stuff from two years ago in ziplocks and it's still good for a fruit stew or to rehydrate maybe make some bread.

My mother dried apples when I was a kid, . . . on sheets of metal roofing, . . . with cheese cloth over it to keep the flies away, . . . they kept literally for years, . . . if they didn't get all eaten up this winter, . . . they got blended in with the next summer batch.

She did fried apple pies mostly with them, . . . and 7 layer sorghum / dried apple / apple butter cake.

FWIW, I also have a plastic 1 gallon pickle jar in my pantry, . . . those dried apples have been there I know over 10 years. They were dried to where they were still pliable, . . . bend without breaking, . . . but pretty dry.

May God bless,
Dwight
