Okay, this is a prepper site. I would imagine someone is savvy to all the information necessary to maintain some kind of computer privacy. So, here is what is going on:

My wife is snooping on everywhere I go on the net. It is impossible to shop online because she sees every site I go to. Complaining about it does nothing. So, if I'm using Mozilla Firefox and want to delete specific sites after visiting, does anyone here know a step by step procedure? I don't want to get rid of every bit of my browsing history; just don't want her to follow me around today and tomorrow whilst I shop online.

If you can get away with it, it's easier to shop online and find what you want - each store can tell you how much of each item they have in stock. Wallyworld, Lowes, and other stores let me pay online and go pick it up later. I'd really appreciate any suggestions. BTW, she checks recent history AND what is on the drop down box in the address bar (the one I really don't know how to delete.)

Thanks in advance

From the History menu, select Show All History.

Product Rectangle Font Operating system Screenshot

Under the History section on the left, select the day you want to delete history for. In the right-hand pane, right-click your mouse on the sites you want to delete, and select Forget About This Site from the fly out menu. Done.

Note, the pages will still be in the cache, but unless your wife goes looking for the cache on disk, this should suffice to as a perfunctory way to avoid snooping.

Research TOR and the only secure browser there is Their version of fire fox not the one you may use.
And by all means never ever use chrome.

I use this site:

www.she'llgetoveritorshewon't.com

As long as you aren't surfing porn or dating sites I'm not sure why she cares where you are going? If she is so anal that she needs to challenge you on your reading and shopping habits then you have bigger problems than a controlling wife.

Grow a pair and stand up to her, that is what (most) men do.

Do you know for sure she is snooping? Even if you delete your history she may be able to recover it by looking through files in your temperary internet files folder. You could use Internet Explorer and im not sure what version (i think the latest) has an "InPrivate" mode which is on the second tab at the top of the browser and allows you too surf the net with no history being stored.

If it is much deeper and she has more suspision than just what you are getting her for christmas/birthday she may have installed a keylogger or other monitoring system. If that is so you may be SOL and the best solution for that action is just to password your computer to deny her acess. Even then some programs will email or send files to another computer on the network for storage so the "snooper" may look at them from a different location / another time.

Oh come on this is too easy. Figure out where she's hoping you shop and hit every store like 3x and be sure to hit the shopping cart icon to really freak her out, oh and tap in a credit card application a couple of times. I actually assume this works best with the NSA too...give them so much crap to handle they can't sort through it all.

Yeah, I'm sure she's snooping. She claims that when she typed a few letters into the address bar, some items from browsing history appear. If she knows where I've already been, she only has to type in a couple of letters and the drop down menu in the address bar confirms the suspicion... even if it's deleted from the recent history.

She's not computer savvy enough to used another kind of monitoring system.

Thanks to everybody for their input. The porn thing won't work either. She REALLY complains if that shows up anywhere the computer.

Sorry, I dont know if you mean she's snooping only for Christmas items you may have baught, or is she "digging", trying to find anything bad you could have said or done?
If she's just going after the gifts, throw her off the trail, with a thousand sites. Tell her that she can try all she wants, she wont know what you got her until you let her open the gifts.
If she is doing it for ulterior motives, I would simply explain that "I have nothing to hide, but dont appreciate the lack of trust."

Shop for a laptop of your own. Encrypt the hard drive, set a strong password and be done with the problem.

We don't keep secrets in my house. My wife is my best friend and I thoroughly trust her. If there is no trust in a relationship, you are in trouble.

Trust issues aside Mozzilla Firefox allows you to surf in "private" mode and you can delete your history and cookies when you exit by setting those parameters under tools.
When I open my history it shows a big blank page. When I look for cookies it only shows the cookies from when I used to use IE from years ago.

With the proper software and training the disk can be search and the history might be able to be recovered but I don't believe anyone but the government would be willing to spend the time and effort to go through the process.

Talk to your wife - calmly and openly and recognize her concerns or reasons and then address them in a way that is non-threatening. Or you could start doing the same thing to her and see if that is ok. You might have to be willing to go through a divorce if you try that second process so that would be a last resort.

This is exactly what I was thinking, if she's willing to snoop on your history she might very well be willing to put keystroke logging software on the computer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to install the stuff and some of it doesn't show up in the task manager either, she could even have a tech savvy friend install the stuff.
