A good idea in case some bandits are chasing you is to have some of those caltrops in a bag in your bov. If you cannot find them, take some sheet metal, cut out a square about the size of a matchbook, then cut two V's on two sides. It will almost look like a letter H but the indentions would be V's. Then take a vice to hold it and bend two ends opposite directions. This will cover any and all sides in case they run over them which will flatten their tires so you can get away from them.

I think Parlusk1791 has a video of how to make these with two nails and a welder. Pretty easy to do and would be effective!
