Business as usual, or something afoot? 50 Senators have accepted newly offered satellite phones...

Under the guise of "new security measures" all 100 senators were offered satellite phones to keep with them at all times.
So far, 50 have taken up the offer. Which 50 has not been disclosed yet.

Thoughts?
Is this just some new measure they've been working on since the FBI coordinated attacks on the capital?
Is there some expectation that Russia will retaliate for our escalation in Ukraine involvement?

It's a bit odd to me that only half of the chamber would take these...

My first thought when this story came out this morning was, were they made in China?
If so, could there be spyware built right into them?

I also, like you, wondered if they expect nuclear war soon.
China is calling in their debts to some second and third world countries.
Pakistan has no money, can not pay China, and also has nuclear weapons.

A lot of people immediately think of Ukraine or Taiwan, but that’s not the only two possibilities.

"emergency that takes out communications" makes me think grid/ system attack of some kind.

I have no doubt any of the 100 would have to fork over a single dime for them. Taxpayers are paying through the nose for 'em. So, in their eyes... why not?

Maybe they're figuring that China is getting to a point in time to "Teach" us a lesson, besides like BPH stated it's free to them.

Certainly, but I'm less interested in "why not", and more interested in "why now"?

Maybe it's because the supplier just wants to use the deal for advertising.
They don’t say which 50 senators accepted. Dems only? Too little information offered up and too many questions raised by this move. On its face, it looks like they may be expecting some type of grid down situation. On the other hand, cell phone communication is easily intercepted and monitored. Sat phone communication may be more secure and could be used for monkey business going forward. Why only 50? Why only senators and not house members? Too many questions!
