Hey folks, I was having a conversation with my sister the other day, and self defense came up. She is a professional baby sitter, yes really, not a mom yet she watches other folks kids. She is active and runs some with the babies in a stroller. She was trying to find a way to carry while running and not deafen the baby if the need arose.
My question is how you would approach this.

Jimbo,

Have her check out various Chest Rigs or the Belly Band Carry System from Cross Breed Holsters. I've got the Belly Band and I can carry concealed and comfortably a SW Shield while walking for exercise. (I don't run anymore but I've run with the Cross Breed Belly band and it works.

If Conceal is not an issue, I also have a chest rig that you can afix and secure various holsters. I've got a Condor and a Voodoo Tactical Rig but any will do. Good luck to your sis!

Interesting stuff guys, TOTALLY different than what we came up with, we've been over the belly band, eh. And the hill people rig is cool! But it would move COG to far forward, dig?
We had come up with a system where she would carry a full size .45 with a can in a scabbard on the stroller, and she already wears a stroller leash so the stroller will stay put. Baby will wear ears on runs, and the can should spare her wee ear drums. Maybe..

Jim, that sounds nuts to me. She must carry very low profile to avoid scarring the Mothers so...
Why a 3 lb (when loaded) 45 when a small 9mm or even a .380 with good ammo will do? Be realistic here, probably less than a 1% chance she will ever fire that pistol in self defense.
Ear muffs on the child every day during the walk? Most parents would seriously balk at that one. They are looking for a baby sitter, not a Rambo bodyguard for their child. If in the extremely unlikely event that your sister had to defend the child using a pistol the last thing the parents would be concerned about is the minimal potential that a few shots could hurt the child's hearing.
Yes, I carry even though I realize that there's a 99% chance I'll never need it and I don't wear muffs to protect my hearing if it's ever needed. But because there's a 1% (or less) chance that I'll need it I carry but I try to be realistic in what I (or your sister) should carry on a daily basis.

The Zombie Apocalypse hasn't happened yet (and probably never will).
