I avoid getting lubricants or cleaning products on any wood. Wipe it off quick if I do.
Worst thing some people do, is being sloppy when cleaning and/or lathering on much more lubricant than the gun needs.
I use CLP on all of my firearms, but have started using some Cherry Balzm on my AR15's as well. A grease that I put on the moving parts that endure a lot of stress, such as the bottom rails on the bolt carrier, cam pin and upper receiver rails.
