what price point would you buy 223.... and what price point would you be "nope I'm good". Ammo can still be found. Was just wondering what was acceptable.... and what wasn't

Once 62gr green tip, for example, hit 60 cents a round. With club discount. I stopped.

I have not purchased any in most calibers in some time . Highest I paid for federal green tip 5.56 was .23. The 338 runs 2.00 of cheap stuff that shoots, 250 for good cheap stuff up to 5.00 for really good match grade stuff.
    77gr match 5.56 I have paid 1.00 a round for 6.5 Creedmoore match 140 grain is over a 1.50 now I have plenty.

I have panic-bought some recently.. Figure as long as I can find it at a decent price, why not? have to pick up some 30-06 hunting rounds from a guy next week.. 6 boxes for 50 bucks. 4x 150gr 1x165gr 1x 180gr... even at normal times those are $18-25/box.. so I couldn't resist.

For .223 FMJ, anything more than $4.99 per box of 20 is a rip off.

For .308 hunting rounds, $22 - $25 per box of 20 for American name brand. Same for 30-06. 30-30 about $18.

    9MM FMJ - $12.99 per 50.

    45 ACP FMJ - $22.99 per 50

I remember these prices as being standard ... before the world went mad.

.223 I have a lot of it. The issue with .223 is it works in 5.56 weapons but is best in weapons chambered for .223 or ones like Wylde chambered weapons that do both very well. Just better off with 5.56. Most .223 on the market is standard 195 ammo in 55gr.
So at this point I would not buy .223 at any price.
Basic 5.56 in 62 grain I would wait for a drop back to under 30 cents before buying any. 5.56 match (Hornaday) is currently around 1.20 around not to out of line if you need it. I would buy at or below 1.00. If you are looking for the most accurate rounds it is worth it.
As you said ammo can be found but it is double or more where it should be. IMO it stay on the at the store for now.
Those without a good supply need to consider after election The new VP will start the EX orders to band ammo sales. Harris will be in charge

I'd be handloading for the 338. Can make stuff more accurate , for your rifle, than good match stuff. But your time is not free either.....
