    To me, that would make sense if the pail had similar characteristics to mylar, regarding oxygen & moisture permeability. But they don't. That is why mylar is used on the inside, as it about the best barrier known for this use. Otherwise, you would see cheaper, polypropylene or polyethylene bags used on the inside. Somewhat similar to balloons. When using helium, the balloons are mylar as they are a superior barrier.

    And when we are talking about stores lasting decades, then permeation is a huge issue. I'm just saying, to my understanding, that extra absorber between the mylar & the plastic pail will lose effectiveness rather soon & you would be back to an atmospheric environment. Seems to me if one was worried about the mylar failing, you'd be better served to double bag. But no big deal, because we ain't talking huge sums of money.
