Found a well on the BOL!

I was bush hogging today and went past a strange concrete structure in the briers. Removed a few blocks, lowered a rope about 75' and it was wet! Awwww yeah! Now I need a hand pump and some piping. I have been filtering water from the pond, which is really good through the Katadyne Pocket Micro filter by the way, but a well? Yes please! This property is so remote I figured I was out of luck for just about everything. Water is a huge deal.

That's a hell of a find! Be sure to test the water before use,no telling what's in it.

    Good find/score!

75' is pretty deep, so good water if no surface infiltration and it's sealed up from critters/rodents. I'd seal it, up shock it with some bleach, then test it in a few weeks. Might just want to haul up a bucket or two to see what you are working with first, depth and quality. Probably better than pond water? But if a critter falls in it.........lets not go there.

Lots of way to go with hand pumps , cheap and $$$. Might try a bucket on a crank to see what that provides and how much you want to invest in a pump.

Should be able to get a good thorough test done for < $100, they sell online DIY kits now too.

The rope was my equipment cord and it has a brass hook on the end. It stopped at about 75' and all but the last 10 or 15 feet was wet so I think a hand pump will work.

    That is great.

An old style, which you can still buy, hand pump will work great to ~ 30'. The pumpers you saw on the old western movies.

P.S. we are close to drought here, make sure the well level is well above your pump pickup in times of sparse rains

I'd have to lower a camera down. Might be full of treasure if it's an old hand dug well.
