I work for a city government. A city can regulate or prohibit the presence of any business they want. For example, there are only a few corners where tattoo parlors are allowed in the city I work for. There are no porn shops or medical marijuana dispensaries allowed anywhere in the City. Now legal in CO, regular marijuana shops will also be prohibited from opening business in the city. Their loss of local sales tax...their choice (city council, that is). I'm not sure how this works with the sheriff making the call, but still the same point.

As far as exercising governmental rights of a city/county...this is nothing new.

In fact...I like that local government can have the power to make these choices. It is part of our diversity in this country. If you don't like it, move to a city that supports what you like, with like-minded Americans. (or go to your city council meeting and be a voice of your community) The freedoms of state and local government is awesome. It allows us all to be "Americans", but then chose to live in a place with like-minded folks. For example, if you like MJ, move to CO or WA with like-minded people. If you don't, there's 48 other states for you to chose from.

Don't knock our freedom to all be Americans, but to be different from one another.

To an extent, yes, you have a point, 5Runner. Your point strays when you say city or county governments should arbitrarily ban such things as gun shows due to the personal apprehensions of a mayor, a chief of police or even the sheriff. Furthermore, it is not acceptable that a city make decisions that are against long standing cultural norms of the country.

One last thing. It is ridiculous to suggest established businesses of families up and relocate each time local government decides it is going to allow politically correct BS rule the day, or allow personal concerns over such nonsense restrict the long-standing cultural norms as gun shows, gun, sales, gun ownership, etc.

A society is supposed to have common bonds. Norms, mores and taboos are the structural components that keep the nation together, the basis for laws and the expectations of decency and etiquette. Weapons ownership is a long-standing more, murder is a long-standing taboo. This is understood. The city is not reacting in an intelligent, logical and American manner, and people and businesses should not be expected to move to Idaho because of that.

You think it's fine that an unelected police chief can make up his own laws? Wow.

    Permits are issued and required
    1. So fees can be collected
    2. So law enforcement knows what is going on
No problem with that but You can not deny a permit based on what you think someone might do it is against the Constitution, it is called prior restraint .
If he had Creditable information that a crime would occur he maybe in the right but that was not the case. There have been countless law suits over the years where permits were denied for rallies based on what LE though and the courts allowed the permits.
He has stepped way out side the law declared him self the law and violated others rights.
So in this case we can shut down movie theaters because of a shooting we can shut down a bar because someone might drink and drive in fact they will. If you can not see the the danger in this your are already lost.
In fact I think you may commit a crime off to jail with you before it happens better safe than sorry. Obama doctrine by the book.

I talked to a lot of cops lately and a lot of the ones around this big area are tired tired of being cops! I had one tell me he was going to go work watching cameras at a security company AND make more money while being appreciated more. I was gabbing with a county off road cop on another day out near the power lines and he was telling me they have not heard anything about guns or locking anything down, but he assured me that 160 men (their on duty force) wouldn't be able to squeak under a boot if they ordered confiscation. And he's right, there are just too few cops and way way too many armed citizens out there. In his words "Tell Obama good luck with that". I think he's right. I mean what's Obama gonna do? They can't even send some trucks into manhattan after a hurricane, that was the absolute best they could do! Katrina? BEST the government could muster period. A few trucks of water and blankets was all New Orleans ever saw. The big cities where corruption runs deep, yeah. You might see some form of pseudo lockdown of a paramilitary force but they would be outnumbered 100 to one on a good day. They won't last long. As long as we put our foot down and stand our ground with our guns they will never see this Orwellian utopia they dream about nightly.

This is all part of the Socialist/Marxist plan from the Whitehouse. If all of the uniformed police quit their jobs, Obama can see to it that the "RIGHT" people are put into those uniforms. He has hundreds of thousands of HIS people who are unemployed, sitting around drinking his koolaid, getting free stuff, extended unemployment benefits, and waiting for those jobs. Do you think America will ever wake up?

I honestly think that yeah, people are waking up and have been for awhile now. Some of what I am seeing on TV shows and in the public court of opinion have really made me hope for the future. They dems pulled the illinois gun ban because they realized they couldn't pass it. That's a big blow to the gun grabbers and Marxist sons of b***** out there. And they know it and hate it.
