You are exactly correct, but not a slow as you may think. The Heritage Foundation did some research and an article not too long ago on the political leanings of politicians over their years of service. An overwhelming number of conservatives started to transition to the left after only a couple of years. More years in service equated to going further left. Lefties never trended to the right.
Peter Meijer, a scared veteran had to vote to impeach, or else not get the bennies of being in DC. The day of the protest was his first day in office.

He's taken some stances over the last few months that caused me to take a step back.
He supports red flag laws.
He's not the conservative darling he once portrayed himself to be.
