    Simple, huh?
If that's the case, why does the poor man remain in custody?

Rich and poor are just semantics. The root of the issue lies in the fact that one person can pay to forgo custody and another cannot. If neither is yet a "criminal", as you rightly defined, then why can they be treated differently based solely on their wealth?

Are poor people really being denied bail? I don't know and I'm not willing to try to find the facts.

I think we can certainly agree that the poor don't get quality representation.

Sorry, don't want to confuse the issue. It isn't that a person might be denied bail. It is that a dollar amount is set for one's freedom until trial. Equal protections under the law should extend to pre-trial treatment as well, should it not? The very concept of "bail" is what I'm at odds with. A charged individual should either be free to roam (with obvious limits), or should remain in custody. All charged individuals should be treated the same way. We should decide which one it should be, and apply it to all. No dollar amount should exist to differentiate treatment.

On going issue here in Houston. You don't have the money you get to stay in jail.

If I am arrested I can put my house up and be out in hours, no money, your their guest till your court date.

Let me break it down for you:
    1. Obey the law, and don't go places you ought not to
    2. By doing so, your chance of being arrested is .000001%
    3. If you are not arrested, you won't need bail

    See, wasn't that simple?

I have never been arrested in my 70 years on this planet. I have never needed bail. I have never been in any more trouble with the law than a few traffic tickets.
If I can do it, so can you.
I was arrested in a case of mistaken identity in the fall of 1981.

Your method doesn't work reliably enough for me.

You were arrested one time in X years with uncountable interactions with police.

I think "By doing so, your chance of being arrested is .000001%" reliably applies.

Yup, that's what I said-- it's not good enough for me.
