It is a fine choice. Easy to use, accurate, reliable out of the box, simple to disassemble and clean and the .40 caliber round is a great all around cartridge. Now you just have to practice and take care of it.

Thanks. I was looking into the 9mm. However, being a new gun owner I need the practice so the .40 was cheaper ammo and not very big of difference in size, in my opinion.

.40 is cheaper than 9mm? I had no idea - good for you!

Glocks tend to be great guns out of the box. Reliable and accurate. .40 is a good self defense caliber. I personally favor the Glock 21.

I favor the m&p 9. I like my 40 too. more expensive to hoard ammo. yet a nice show stopper. I sleep with my m&p 40. play with my m&p 9. glock is a fine piece too. ride yer own ride dood. rent one check it out. shoot both caliburs and get what feels excellent to you.

Nothing wrong with 40, though I'd be surprised if you are finding the ammo cheaper than 9mm. I'd also ask whether you've fired 40S&W before because all else being equal, it does have a greater kick/recoil, and that bothers some people.

Glock is ok but highly over hyped best to stick with a true American made weapon 40 did not catch on like they though it would.
