United States to arm Syrian Rebels

Can someone please tell me why in the hell we are giving arms to the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Syria?! It is a fact that the ranks of the rebels are infiltrated by thousands of radical terrorists and foreign fighters. We are replacing another secular government with an Islamic theocracy. How is this good for the United States? We are creating yet another enemy in the Middle East bent on the destruction of Israel and the West. Assad is certainly no friend, but I say anything's better than the alternative. We should back any non religious government in the middle east or at least have a complete hands off policy.

Let Israel do as they will with Syria and back their move. There are very few true allies to the United States in points East. We can't sit on the fence forever.

If you recall we armed a guy named Osama Bin Laden once with anti aircraft missiles to kick Russia out of Afghanistan. This is the same administration that didn't even bother to leave a base in Iraq after we conquered it a second time. Clearly we have idealogues in charge who can't bother to study history lessons.

They will be lucky if Assad does not arm some terror cells in the United States.

I recall arming the mujaheddin very well. That was technically a war between the superpowers. The Soviet Union took a major whipping. Lots of blowback from that one though. I am still surprised that some of those Stinger missiles haven't been used against us.

They just said that the US Government will provide arms to only "vetted" fighters. Bin Laden was vetted by the government and given a fat stamp of approval. This is beginning to sound like a Homer Simpson operation.

There are so many intertwined strings in that region it's not going to take much of a tug to unravel all of it. So far Israel seems to understand and be content that Jordan has fortified it's borders and that Turkey has the Patriot system recently inplace. None the less, all it's going to take is for Syria and/or Egypt to decide to strike Israel and it's on like Donkey Kong.

We can only hope then that the Washington suits and the CIA don't try and manage the war.
